  1. 1. Atomic Scale Design of Clean Energy Materials : Efficient Solar Energy Conversion and Gas Sensing

    Author : Jawad Nisar; Rajeev Ahuja; Puru Jena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysts; Band gap narrowing; Water dissociation; Density functional theory; Gas sensing; Kaolinite; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The focus of this doctoral thesis is the atomic level design of photocatalysts and gas sensing materials. The band gap narrowing in the metal oxides for the visible-light driven photocatalyst as well as the interaction of water and gas molecules on the reactive surfaces of metal oxides and the electronic structure of kaolinite has been studied by the state-of-art calculations. Author : Iwan Darmadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasmonic sensing; palladium hydride; palladium; polymer; localized surface plasmon resonance; Pd; nanoparticle; surfactant; hydrogen; palladium alloy; hydrogen sensor;

    Abstract : In the hydrogen economy scenario, hHydrogen gas is ispotential to be the main energy carrier in the hydrogen economy scenario in the upcoming future. It receives much attention since the reaction with oxygen generates electricity and produces only clean waterhydrogen is attractive as energy carrier since the energy produced by its reaction with oxygen only producesleaves water as by-product. 4. 4. Cr Vaporization and Oxide Scale Growth on Interconnects in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

    Author : Hannes Falk Windisch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Corrosion; Interconnect; Cr Vaporization; SOFC; Coatings;

    Abstract : The vaporization of Cr(VI) species and the greater electrical resistance caused by a growing oxide scale are probably the two most detrimental degradation mechanisms associated with the use of Cr2O3-forming alloys as the interconnect material in a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC). High electrical efficiency, clean emissions and the possibility to utilize several types of fuels, such as hydrogen, alcohols and hydrocarbons are some of the great advantages of SOFC technology. 5. 5. Polymer-Nanoparticle Hybrid Materials for Plasmonic Hydrogen Detection

    Author : Iwan Darmadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrogen; nanofabrication; hybrid material; nanocomposite; polymer; alloy; sensor; nanoplasmonic; palladium;

    Abstract : Plasmonic metal nanoparticles and polymer materials have independently undergone rapid development during the last two decades. More recently, it has been realized that combining these two systems in a hybrid or nanocomposite material comprised of plasmonically active metal nanoparticles dispersed in a polymer matrix leads to systems that exhibit fascinating properties, and some first attempts had been made to exploit them for optical spectroscopy, solar cells or even pure art.
