  1. 11. Improving Stress Tolerance in Industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strains for Ethanol Production from Lignocellulosic Biomass

    Author : Valeria Wallace; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; lignocellulose; ethanol; inhibitors; temperature; stress tolerance;

    Abstract : The present work was aimed at developing industrial S. cerevisiae strains with improved tolerance to two types of stressors encountered during the fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass that affect ethanol yield and productivity, namely hydrolysate-derived inhibitors and high temperature, and at understanding the response of yeast and mechanisms of adaptation to such stressors. 2. 12. Development of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics Tools : From Hydrogen Evolution to Cell Division in Cyanobacteria

    Author : Fernando Lopes Pinto; Peter Lindblad; Röbbe Wünschiers; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; hydrogen; RNA; bioinformatics; RT-PCR; RACE; transcription; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Molecular Biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The use of fossil fuels presents a particularly interesting challenge - our society strongly depends on coal and oil, but we are aware that their use is damaging the environment. Currently, this awareness is gaining momentum, and pressure to evolve towards an energetically cleaner planet is very strong. READ MORE

  3. 13. Catalytic conversion of biomass-derived synthesis gas to liquid fuels

    Author : Rodrigo Suárez París; Magali Boutonnet; Agustín Martínez Feliu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofuels; Fischer-Tropsch wax; higher alcohols; hydroconversion; kinetic modelling; methanol cofeeding; microemulsion; MoS2; noble metal; syngas; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Climate change is one of the biggest global threats of the 21st century. Fossil fuels constitute by far the most important energy source for transportation and the different governments are starting to take action to promote the use of cleaner fuels. READ MORE

  4. 14. Energy savings for petroleum processing : Using mathematical models, optimal control and diagnostics

    Author : Esin Iplik; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; Ioanna Aslanidou; Mehmet Mercangöz; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Petroleum products are widely used as an energy supply, and the total production capacity of petroleum refineries is quite high. In this thesis, an energy intensive refinery process, hydroprocessing, is selected and evaluated in terms of its energy loss contributors. Digital solutions are discussed and demonstrated to reduce losses. READ MORE

  5. 15. Considering external costs : Their influence on technical measures in energy systems

    Author : Annelie Carlson; Christian Azar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : It is well known that conversion of energy gives rise to several environmental problems. The impact on the environment and human health can involve substantial indirect costs for society. These indirect costs are also known as external costs, since the market often does not consider them. READ MORE
