  1. 1. In Situ Soft X-ray Spectroscopies Applied to Atmospheric Corrosion And Related Systems

    Author : Johan Forsberg; Joseph Nordgren; Laurent Duda; Clemens Heske; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the application of various soft x-ray spectroscopic methods (soft x-ray absorption, SXA, and emission, SXE) to complex, non-vacuum compatible systems, including liquids and multi-phase systems. The design, construction, and application of new instrumentation for in situ spectroscopy is described in detail. READ MORE

  2. 2. Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering of Rare-Earth and Copper Systems

    Author : Kristina Kvashnina; Joseph Nordgren; Clemens Heske; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; resonant inelastic X-ray scattering; Fysik;

    Abstract : Rare earths and copper systems were studied using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS). The use of monochromased synchrotron radiation and improved energy resolution for RIXS made possible to obtain valuable information on the electronic structure in 4f, 5f and 3d systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aqueous Solutions as seen through an Electron Spectrometer : Surface Structure, Hydration Motifs and Ultrafast Charge Delocalization Dynamics

    Author : Niklas Ottosson; Svante Svensson; Olle Björneholm; Gunnar Öhrwall; Clemens Heske; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water; Aqueous solutions; Ions; Molecular Hydration; Electron dynamics; Atmospheric Chemistry; Hydrolysis; Acid-Base Chemistry; Interatomic Coulombic Decay; ICD; Liquid Micro-Jet; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; XPS; Auger Electron Spectroscopy; AES; MAX-lab; BESSY; Physics; Fysik; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In spite of their high abundance and importance, aqueous systems are enigmatic on the microscopic scale. In order to obtain information about their geometrical and electronic structure, simple aqueous solutions have been studied experimentally by photo- and Auger electron spectroscopy using the novel liquid micro-jet technique in conjunction with synchrotron radiation.
