  1. 11. Development of low affinity techniques for applications in clinical chemistry

    Author : Lisa Leickt; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chromatography performance; acute myocardial infarction; antibodies; creatine kinase MB isoforms; lectins; low affinity interactions; weak affinity chromatography; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : An increase in the plasma level of creatine kinase MB (CKMB) has long been used to indicate acute myocardial infarction (AMI). For optimal treatment an early diagnosis is important. An increase in the ratio between the two isoforms of CKMB is seen much earlier than an increase in the total level of CKMB. READ MORE

  2. 12. Palladium(0)-Catalyzed Spirocyclization and Carbonylation Reactions : Ligands Targeting the Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor

    Author : Jens Lindman; Mats Larhed; Johan Gising; Christian Sköld; Alessandra Tolomelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Palladium catalysis; Mizoroki-Heck reaction; spiroindolines; spirooxindoles; amino acids; carbonylation; angiotensin II type 2 receptor; AT2R ligands; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : Palladium(0)-catalyzed chemistry represents one of the most important methods for the construction of carbon-carbon bonds, which are ubiquitous in organic compounds. The first part of this thesis describes the palladium(0)-catalyzed diastereoselective Mizoroki-Heck reaction of Vince lactam-derived precursors for the formation of spiroindolines (paper I) and spirooxindoles, which are scaffolds present in several natural products with interesting biological activity. 3. 13. Avian antibodies applied in particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay : Developement of serum/plasma calprotectin immunoassay and its clinical performance as a marker for bacterial infections

    Author : Tom Nilsen; Anders Larsson; Bjørn Steen Skålhegg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sepsis; avian antibodies; calprotectin antigen; particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay.; Clinical Chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein in the granulocytes, consisting of S100A8 and S100A9. On the site of inflammation, the neutrophils release the cytosol as an inflammatory response. The circulating calprotectin concentration increases and can therefore be used as marker for neutrophil activation and inflammation. READ MORE

  4. 14. Homocysteine and its determinants in relation to cardiovascular risk factors and myocardial infarction

    Author : Elisabet Söderström; Johan Hultdin; Torbjörn K. Nilsson; Anders Larsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Homocysteine; folate; myocardial infarction; apolipoprotein; risk factors; cotinine; nicotine; tobacco; CTH; MTHFR; renal insufficiency; glomerular filtration rate; creatinine; cystatin C; shrunken pore syndrome; epidemiology; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Background: Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, are the leading cause of illness and death and constitute a significant part of the disease burden in Sweden and Western Europe. Age, hypertension, smoking, obesity, dyslipoproteinemia, diabetes, and impaired renal function are considered established risk factors for CVD. READ MORE

  5. 15. Preclinical and Clinical Development of the Novel Cyanoguanidine CHS 828 for Cancer Treatment

    Author : Peter Hovstadius; Rolf Larsson; Elin Lindhagen; Martin Höglund; Sigurd Vitols; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical drug development; CHS 828; Cyanoguanidines; Oncology; Clinical Drug Development; Klinisk läkemedelsutveckling; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : CHS 828 is a cyanoguanidine with anti-tumour properties which has shown promising effects in several preclinical models. This thesis describes both preclinical and clinical studies aiming to investigate disease specific activity, clinical tolerability and efficacy of CHS 828. READ MORE
