  1. 1. Cluster Initiatives as Intermediaries : A Study of their Management and Stakeholders

    Author : Inessa Laur; Magnus Klofsten; Dzamila Bienkowska; Peter Van der Sijde; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Cluster; cluster initiatives; intermediary organization; regional development; entrepreneurship; success factors; actors stakeholders and activities;

    Abstract : This dissertation offers a platform to understand the nature of cluster initiatives as a socio-economic phenomenon combining cluster, entrepreneurship and intermediary features. They are particular types of ventures facilitating networks and dialog platforms adjusted to local contexts and offering a way to enhance regional development. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cluster Dynamics and Industrial Policy in Peripheral Regions : a study of cluster formation as a local development process

    Author : Cali Nuur; Staffan Laestadius; David Jacobson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Peripheral regions; Industrial policy; regional development policy; cluster dynamics; call centress; Sweden; Hälsingland; Landsortsregioner; Industriell politik; Regional utvecklingspolitik; Klusterdynamik; Call centers; Sverige; Hälsingland; Industrial organisation; administration and economics; Industriell organisation; administration och ekonomi;

    Abstract : The rapid growth of the global economy in the last two decades has created a new economic reality in many municipalities in peripheral regions of Sweden. Having earlier relied on traditional industry as the source of employment, today municipalities in peripheral regions are struggling to survive in a completely changed economic landscape, with new conditions for development. 3. 3. Magnetic Reconnection in Space Plasmas : Cluster Spacecraft Observations

    Author : Alessandro Retinò; Mats André; Andris Vaivads; Bengt U. Ö. Sonnerup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Space and plasma physics; space physics; plasma astrophysics; plasma physics; transport processes; boundary layers; magnetic reconnection; turbulence; particle acceleration; solar system; magnetospheres; Rymd- och plasmafysik;

    Abstract : Magnetic reconnection is a universal process occurring at boundaries between magnetized plasmas, where changes in the topology of the magnetic field lead to the transport of charged particles across the boundaries and to the conversion of electromagnetic energy into kinetic and thermal energy of the particles. Reconnection occurs in laboratory plasmas, in solar system plasmas and it is considered to play a key role in many other space environments such as magnetized stars and accretion disks around stars and planets under formation. 4. 4. Cluster Observations and Theoretical Explanations of Broadband Waves in the Auroral Region

    Author : Marie Backrud; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Mats André; David Knudsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; ion acoustic waves; auroral region; anomalous resistivity; Cluster; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : Broadband extremely low-frequency wave emissions below the ion plasma frequency have been observed by a number of spacecraft and rockets on auroral field lines. The importance of these broadband emissions for transverse ion heating and electron acceleration in the auroral regions is now reasonably well established. READ MORE

  5. 5. Understanding regional peace and security: A framework for analysis

    Author : Rodrigo Tavares; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; security; peace; regions; regional peace and security cluster; regional organizations; South Asia; Europe; Kashmir; Olivenza; Gibraltar;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to build an analytical framework for understanding regional peace and security. Building on important insights from other theoretical approaches and drawing from empirical data, the framework aims to problematize and understand: (a) how peace and security cluster at the regional level, (b) the components of each regional cluster, and (c) the linkages that exist between them.
