1. Metal Cluster Reactivity. Adsorption of small molecules in biomolecular collisions
Abstract : Metal clusters can be characterized as the tiniest possible metal particles, containing only an easily counted number of atoms. In this work, reactions between metal clusters and diatomic molecules have been investigated. We have constructed an experimental set-up to produce and detect clusters, and to investigate their chemical reactivity. READ MORE

2. Structure and Phase Stability of Polyelectrolyte-Macroion Solutions
Abstract : Polyelectrolytes are polymers bearing ionisable groups, which, in polar solvents, can dissociate into charged polymer chains (polyelectrolytes) and small counterions. In aqueous solutions, polyelectrolytes interact strongly with other macroions and in particular they tend to associate with objects of opposite charge and form complexes. READ MORE

3. Cluster model of disordered systems : application to doped semiconductors and a simple model polymer
Abstract : In this thesis we study with an extended cluster model calculation the combined effect of disorder and electron-electron interaction on the electronic structure of doped semiconductors and a simple model polymer chain. First a one-band model using a Hartree calculation is compared to other authors result for the impurity band using less realistic Hamiltonians. READ MORE

4. Simulations of water clustering in vapour, hydrocarbons and polymers
Abstract : It is commonly known that water plays a crucial role in many natural and industrial processes. One of these processes is the formation of water trees, and the subsequent breakdown of polyethylene used for high voltage cable insulation purposes. READ MORE

5. Contacts on Silicon Carbide by Use of Nickel and Tantalum ---Preparation and Characterisation
Abstract : Silicon carbide (SiC) is one of the attractive semiconductors due to its good electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. It is a promising material for high temperature, high power and high frequency application. Reliable electrodes are always necessary to utilise SiC for electronic devices. READ MORE
