  1. 1. Blood-Brain Barrier Transport of Drugs Across Species with the Emphasis on Health, Disease and Modelling

    Author : Karin Tunblad; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Niclas Jonsson; Elizabeth CM de Lange; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Blood-brain barrier; Disease; Microdialysis; Modelling; Transport; Pharmacokinetics; NONMEM; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci;

    Abstract : The transport of drugs across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) has been investigated in different species using morphine and morphine-6-glucuronide (M6G) as model compounds. The influence of probenecid on the BBB transport of morphine and M6G was investigated, and the consequences of meningitis and severe brain injury on the concentrations of morphine in the brain were examined. Abstract : Overall aim: To describe the essence of autonomy and participation for older people in care, and how to promote this in care for them.Method: A descriptive design with a phenomenological approach. Sixteen older people (I) and 13 registered nurses (II) participated in individual face-to-face interviews (I and II). READ MORE

  3. 3. Advanced fuels for thermal spectrum reactors

    Author : Jitka Zakova; Janne Wallenius; Jan-Leen Kloosterman; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BWR; transmutation; thorium; Pu; MA; Am; Cm; AHTR; thermal; reactor; neutron;

    Abstract : The advanced fuels investigated in this thesis comprise fuels non− conventional in their design/form (TRISO), their composition (high content of plutonium and minor actinides) or their use in a reactor type, in which they have not been used before (e.g. nitride fuel in BWR). 4. 4. Understanding the large-scale structure of the the21-cm signal originating from the Epoch of Reionisation

    Author : Ivelin Georgiev; Garrelt Mellema; Jens Jasche; Aurel Schneider; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reionisation; cosmology; 21-cm; large-scale structure; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The first billion years from the beginning of the Universe is the focus of multiple astronomical facilities in the upcoming decade. This unique era is marked by the formation of the first stars and galaxies, which release ionising radiation into the intergalactic medium(IGM). READ MORE

  5. 5. Tomographic study of the 21-cm signal

    Author : Sambit Kumar Giri; Garrelt Mellema; Matthew Hayes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dark ages; reionization; first stars – early universe – methods: statistical – radio lines: galaxies – techniques: interferometric – techniques: image processing; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The next generation radio telescopes such as the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be able to produce images of the redshifted Hi (neutral hydrogen) 21-cm signal from the Epoch of reionization (EoR). In this thesis, we use the simulated tomographic images of the signal and investigate methods to extract and interpret information from those images. READ MORE
