  1. 16. Laser-Based Combustion and Trace-element Analysis

    Author : Yvonne Malmsten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser-induced fluorescence; graphite furnace; trace element analysis; LEI; laser-enhanced ionisation; LIF; meta-stable; flow-tagging; NO; OH; counter-flow diffusion flame;

    Abstract : Laser spectroscopy has been utilised as a tool for combustion diagnostics and sensitive trace-element analysis. In the field of combustion analysis, a characterisation of a CH4/N2 - O2/N2 counter-flow diffusion flame has been performed using Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF). READ MORE

  2. 17. Sulphide-rich tailings remediated by soil cover : evaluation of cover efficiency and tailings geochemistry, Kristineberg, northern Sweden

    Author : Erik Carlsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : The efficiency of soil cover as a method of remediation of sulphide-rich tailings has been studied at an impoundment at the Kristineberg mine, Northern Sweden. Two variations of soil cover were used in the remediation. The major part of the impoundment was covered with a 1.0 m layer of till where the groundwater table was shallow. READ MORE

  3. 18. Study of Electrochemical Behaviour and Corrosion Resistance of Materials for Pacemaker Lead Applications

    Author : Andreas Örnberg; Jinshan Pan; Jukka Lausmaa; Ann Cornell; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-base alloy; 35N LT; MP35N; Ta; TiN coating; electrochemical behaviour; corrosion resistance; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : For patients suffering bradycardia, i.e., too slow heart rhythm, the common treatment is having a pacemaker implanted. The pacemaker system consists of the pacemaker and a pacing lead. READ MORE

  4. 19. Co-disposal of waste rock and lignite fly ash to mitigate the environmental impact of coal mining

    Author : Asif Qureshi; Björn Öhlander; Christian Maurice; Thomas Pabst; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acid mine drainage AMD ; coal mine waste rocks; coal fly ash; co-disposal; mixing blending; dry-cover; prevention neutralisation; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Abstract : Waste rocks (WRs) from coal mining and fly ash (FA) from coal combustion were studied to determine the potential of the WRs to generate AMD, FAs to neutralise it and estimate their impacts on environment. The ultimate goal was to develop a methodology based on co-disposal to mitigate the environmental problems associated to both wastes. READ MORE

  5. 20. Hydrogeochemistry of Fe and Mn in small boreal catchments

    Author : Louise Björkvald; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrogeochemistry; Fe; Mn; boreal catchments; spring flood; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap;

    Abstract : It is suggested that the overall understanding of the general hydrogeochemistry of a region is best understood from a landscape perspective. If so, this can provide useful information when planning monitoring programmes and influence of human activity. READ MORE
