  1. 21. Phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of high-alloy tool steels : theoretical and experimental approach

    Author : Johan Bratberg; John Ågren; Bengt Hallstedt; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermodynamic modelling; thermodynamic calculations; tool steels; high-speed steels; CALPHAD; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The recent development of tool steels and high-speed steels has led to a significant increase in alloy additions, such as Co, Cr, Mo, N, V, and W. Knowledge about the phase relations in these multicomponent alloys, that is, the relative stability between different carbides or the solubility of different elements in the carbides and in the matrix phase, is essential for understanding the behaviour of these alloys in heat treatments. Abstract : For more than 50 years total hip replacements have been a common and successful procedure to increase patient mobility and quality of life. The 10-year implant survival rate is 97.8%. READ MORE

  3. 23. Influence of acidification and liming on metals in lake sediments

    Author : Teresia Wällstedt; Hans Borg; Eiliv Steinnes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Emission and precipitation of acidifying substances and metals has caused severe acidification and increased metal concentrations in lakes and streams in Sweden as well as many other countries during the last decades. To counteract the negative effects of acidification, liming has been used extensively in Sweden since the 1970’s, a treatment that has been called one of the largest man-maid manipulations of aquatic ecosystems ever. 4. 24. Geochemistry of the Kola River, northwestern Russia

    Author : Larisa Pekka; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : The Kola River in the northern part of the Kola Peninsula, northwestern Russia, flows into the Barents Sea via the Kola Bay. The river is vital for the reproduction of salmon and an important source of drinking water for more than 500,000 people in Murmansk and the surrounding municipalities. READ MORE

  5. 25. Characterization of suspended particulate matter from freshwater : validation of a field filtration technique

    Author : Fredrik Ödman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : A field filtration method for the concentration and separation of suspended particulate matter (SPM) from freshwater systems and the subsequent determination of major, minor, trace and ultra trace elements (Al, As, Ba, Be, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Fe, Ga, Hf, K, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Nb, Ni, P, Pb, Rb, S, Sb, Sc, Si, Sn, Sr, Ta, Th, Ti, Tl, U, V, W, Zn and Zr) is validated with respect to detection limits, precision, and bias. The validation comprises the whole procedure including filtration, sample digestion and instrumental analysis. READ MORE
