1. Magnetodynamics of pseudo spin valves investigated using co-planar waveguide and spin torque ferromagnetic resonance techniques
Abstract : Nanocontact spin-torque nano-oscillators (NC-STNOs), based on magnetic multilayers, can generate a wide range of highly nonlinear localized and propagating spin wave modes for use in magnonics. In this thesis, we study some aspects of these structures from the fundamental physics point of view using the spin torque ferromagnetic resonance technique (ST-FMR) and conventional broadband FMR technique. 2. Synthesis of Nanoparticles and Organometallic Complexes for Gas Sensing
Abstract : Currently metal nanoparticles (NPs) are a subject of interest regarding many applications, in particular chemical gas sensing, as the associated environmental issues are of substantial importance. Metal NPs are attractive due to their fascinating optical properties and primarily, localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) which strongly depends on size and shape of NPs. READ MORE

3. Field and pilot-scale geochemical investigations into using sewage sludge for sulphidic mine waste remediation
Abstract : Successful mine waste reclamation is a fundamental aspect in mine plan development and is legislated through the European Parliament’s ‘Management of Waste from Extractive Industries Directive (2006/21/EC)’. Field and pilot-scale trials were utilised to evaluate different applications of an alternative cover material, sewage sludge, in its ability to remediate and prevent acid rock drainage formation from sulphidic mine tailings derived from the Kristineberg Zn-Cu mine, northern Sweden. 4. Geochemical and hydrological aspects of interactions between water and mine waste
Abstract : This thesis presents laboratory studies of sulphidic mine tailings remediated by flooding, and a pilot-scale study of dry cover for remediation of unoxidised sulphide-rich tailings. At the Kristineberg Zn-Cu mine in northern Sweden, sulphide-rich, poorly buffered tailings have been deposited in five impoundments located along a valley. READ MORE

5. Baltic Sea sediments : Source and sink for metal contamination
Abstract : The Baltic Sea sediments record spatial and temporal information about metalsand metalloids (hereafter referred to as metals), which could help to understandthe past and present contamination sinks in different basins. In addition, giventhe expanding anoxic zones in the Baltic Sea, the response of metals to artificialreoxygenation is poorly understood. READ MORE
