  1. 21. LKB1 signaling pathways in adipocytes - Focus on the AMPK-related kinase SIK2

    Author : Emma Henriksson; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocytes; signal transduction; protein phosphorylation; LKB1; SIK2; SIK3; cAMP;

    Abstract : Adipose tissue does not only store and release energy in response to hormones, it is also known as an endocrine organ, secreting important factors and hormones that influence for example appetite and insulin sensitivity. The association of type 2 diabetes with obesity has been known for quite some time. READ MORE

  2. 22. Expression and functional analysis of the SCA7 disease protein ataxin-7

    Author : Anna-Lena Ström; Monica Holmberg; Patrik Brundin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Polyglutamine disease; CAG repeat; Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by cerebellar ataxia and visual problems due to a progressive and selective loss of neurons within the cerebellum, brainstem and retina. The disease is caused by the expansion of a CAG repeat in the first coding exon of the SCA7 gene, resulting in an expanded polyglutamine domain in the N-terminal part of ataxin-7, a protein of unknown function. 3. 23. Fission yeast mediator complex and its role in transcriptional regulation

    Author : Olga Khorosjutina; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mediator is an evolutionary conserved co-activator complex that regulates transcription of protein encoding genes in eukaryotes. This multiprotein complex was first identified in budding yeast and shown to be indispensable for RNA polymerase II (pol II) dependent transcription. READ MORE

  4. 24. TRAF6 stimulates TGFβ-induced oncogenic signal transduction in cancer cells

    Author : Shyam Kumar Gudey; Marene Landström; Urban Lendahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; c-Jun; invasion; non-Smad; Notch; NICD; oncogenesis; presenilin1; PKCζ; prostate cancer; p21; p38; p300; Snail1; TGFβ; TβRI; TACE; TRAF6; ubiquitination; TGFbeta signal transduction; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in men worldwide, with 10,000 new cases/year diagnosed in Sweden. In this context, there is an urgent need to identify new biomarkers to detect prostate cancer at an initial stage for earlier treatment intervention. READ MORE

  5. 25. Regulation of transcription factors by XAP-2 : a member of the Hsp90 chaperone complex

    Author : Petra Berg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The AhR belongs to the bHLH/PAS family of transcription factors, which mediates biological effects of environmental pollutants such as 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-rho-dioxin (TCDD). In the absence of ligand the AhR is located in the cytoplasmatic compartment of the cell associated with the molecular chaperone Hsp90, p23 and a member of the immunophilin family of proteins, XAP-2.
