  1. 6. Hydrogenases in the Cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. Strain PCC 73102

    Author : Fredrik Oxelfelt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; fysiologisk botanik; Physiological Botany;

    Abstract : Many cyanobacteria are capable of fixing atmospheric N2, a reaction that is also producing H2. This hydrogen is often metabolized by an enzyme called hydrogenase. The aim of the present work was to identify and characterize hydrogen metabolism/hydrogenases in the free-living N2-fixing cyanobacterium Nostoc sp.strain PCC 73102. READ MORE

  2. 7. Spatial and temporal regulation of neural stem cells in the developing brain by PRDM16

    Author : Li He; Qi Dai; Christos Samakovlis; Simon Hippenmeyer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain development; Neural stem cell; PRDM16; BMP signaling; Choroid plexus; Cortical neurogenesis; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : The mammalian brain comprises a large number and diversity of neurons and non-neural cells. Most of these cell types derive from a single sheet of neuroepithelium (NE) that contains a limited pool of neural stem cells (NSCs).  NSCs in the developing brain are under complex regulation to achieve maximum daughter cell type diversity. 3. 8. A genomic approach to smooth muscle differentiation and diversity

    Author : Sven Nelander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Keywords: smooth muscle; phenotype; transcriptional regulation; differentiation; transcriptome; microarray; computational prediction; co-expression network; regulatory sequence analysis; gene module; gene battery;

    Abstract : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) are a broad class of contractile cells that are found in a number of organs systems, including the vasculature, the urogenital system, the bronchi and the gastrointestinal tract. The two main functions exerted by SMCs are to provide contractile force and to synthesize structural components of the extracellular matrix. READ MORE

  4. 9. Interindividual differences in thiopurine metabolism : studies with focus on inflammatory bowel disease

    Author : Sofie Haglund; Sven Almer; Jan Söderman; Curt Peterson; Åke Nilsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The thiopurines, 6-mercaptopurine and its prodrug azathioprine, are used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn´s disease. The main active metabolites are the phosphorylated thioguanine nucleotides (6-TGNs) and methylated thioinosine monophosphate (meTIMP). READ MORE

  5. 10. Structural and functional investigation of underexplored carbohydrate-active enzyme families

    Author : Andrea Seveso; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbohydrate-active enzymes; lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase; plant biomass degradation; copper radical oxidases; carbohydrate esterase; protein structure determination; protein structure prediction;

    Abstract : The known consequences of the current fossil-based economy require a transition towards a bio-based economy. Development of biorefineries in which plant biomass can be utilized as a renewable source of energy and building blocks to produce both commodities and high-value products, is a key step in this transition.
