6. Tracking environmental changes of the Baltic Sea coastal zone since mid-Holocene
Abstract : In this thesis, I used two coastal sediment sequences from SE Sweden to study how Baltic Sea coastal environment has changed since the mid-Holocene. The results show the coastal environment has been influenced by multi-stressors, such as climate change, shoreline regression and anthropogenic activities. READ MORE

7. Effects of morphometric isolation and vegetation on the macroinvertebrate community in shallow Baltic Sea land-uplift bays
Abstract : Shallow sheltered Baltic Sea bays are ecologically important habitats that harbour a unique vegetation community and constitute vital reproduction areas for many coastal fish species. Knowledge about the invertebrate community in these bays is, however, limited. READ MORE

8. Functional and structural characterizations of phytoplankton-bacteria interactions in response to environmental challenges
Abstract : Microorganisms, such as phytoplankton and bacteria, make up ≈70% of aquatic biomass and contribute 50-85% of the oxygen in Earth’s atmosphere. The microbial loop concept and the discovery of the large diversity in microbial communities acknowledge that biotic interactions between microorganisms in addition to resource competition enable the recycling of energy and nutrients in aquatic food webs. 9. Intraspecific diversity of pike (Esox lucius) in the Baltic Sea and new insights on thermoregulation in fish
Abstract : Fish display a fascinating variation in behavior, morphology and physiology among species, among individuals within species, and within individuals over time. A central quest in ecology and evolution is to understand causes and consequences of such variation. READ MORE

10. Ice Sheet, Climate, and Landscape Interactions in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica
Abstract : The impact of glaciers and ice sheets on the subglacial landscape are of fundamental importance for studies of glacial history and landscape development, both in previously glaciated areas and in areas that are glaciated today. The thesis concerns the present and past erosive capacity of the ice sheet in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. READ MORE
