  1. 16. Hardware/Software Co-Design of Heterogeneous Manycore Architectures

    Author : Süleyman Savas; Tomas Nordström; Zain Ul-Abdin; Jari Nurmi; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hardware software co-design; manycore architectures; heterogeneous manycores; processor design; parallel computing; high performance computing;

    Abstract : In the era of big data, advanced sensing, and artificial intelligence, the required computation power is provided mostly by multicore and manycore architectures. However, the performance demand keeps growing. Thus the computer architectures need to continue evolving and provide higher performance. READ MORE

  2. 17. The Structure of Chinese Timber Architecture Twelfth century design standards and construction principles

    Author : Qinghua Guo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; units of measurement; design standards; timber structure; Chinese architecture; building patterns; carpentry system; construction principles; proportion; modular design;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the building standards and construction principles prescribed and used in the construction of state buildings of the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279), China, from the viewpoint of architectural design. It aims to answer three fundamental questions: (1) What measuring system was used in the carpentry design and construction? (2) What building scales and proportions were prescribed for and used in state buildings of the time? (3) What were the interrelations of the structural patterns and roof types, and what were their relationships to the building scales and proportions? The thesis begins by providing detailed explanations of the highly refined and unique Song period modular system which governed not only the sizes of each individual elements, but also the dimensions of structural grids and the proportion of entire building. 3. 18. Understanding and Supporting Software Design in Model-Based Software Engineering

    Author : Rodi Jolak; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Software Engineering; Software Design; Software Modeling; MBSE Efforts and Challenges; Software Design Environments; Collaboration; Communication; Human Aspects; Empirical Studies;

    Abstract : Model-Based Software Engineering (MBSE) is a software development approach in which models can serve a multitude of purposes. On the one hand, models can be used for ideation, to stimulate creative thinking, and facilitate communication. On the other hand, models can be used as guidelines for documentation, implementation, and code-generation. READ MORE

  4. 19. Towards a Theory of Codes for Iterative Decoding

    Author : Michael Lentmaier; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bit error probability; low-density parity-check convolutional code; low-density parity-check code; turbo code; convolutional code; channel coding; iterative decoding; Informatics; systems theory; Informatik; systemteori;

    Abstract : Channel codes in combination with iterative decoding techniques are a both powerful and efficient method to protect data against disturbances in digital communication systems. This thesis deals with various code constructions for block-wise and continuous transmission that have the potential to achieve low bit error rates with iterative decoding, even when operating close to the Shannon limit. 5. 20. Design for Serviceability - A probabilistic approach

    Author : Daniel Honfi; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design codes; long-term deflections; structural reliability; serviceability;

    Abstract : In many design situations the acceptable performance of structures is defined by serviceability requirements. To estimate the probability of serviceability failure three main design aspects should be considered: (1) the relevant exposures, (2) the structural response and (3) the performance criteria.
