  1. 1. Canine inherited retinal degenerations: a model for visual impairment in humans

    Author : Suvi Mäkeläinen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Inherited retinal degenerations (IRDs) form a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of diseases, leading to visual impairment or blindness in both humans and dogs. The prevalence of IRDs is estimated at 1 in 2,000 in humans. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular Genetic Analysis in B-cell Lymphomas : A Focus on the p53 Pathway and p16INK4a

    Abstract : The presence of TP53 mutations has been associated with inferior outcome in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). In DLBCL, the impact of the TP53 codon 72 polymorphism and MDM2 SNP309 has not been clearly elucidated, whereas MDM2 SNP309 was suggested as a poor-prognostic marker in CLL. READ MORE

  3. 3. Factors modulating tRNA biogenesis and function in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Fu Xu; Anders Byström; Marcus J. O. Johansson; Raffael Schaffrath; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Translation; tRNA biogenesis; suppressor tRNA; Elongator complex; wobble uridine modifications; SUP4; YPK9; SSD1; serine tRNA; synthetic lethality; yeast; biology; biologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : Transfer RNA (tRNA) genes are transcribed by RNA polymerase III as precursors that undergo multiple processing steps to form mature tRNAs. These steps include processing of the 5’ leader and 3’ trailer sequences, addition of a 3’ CCA tail, removal of introns, and formation of modified nucleosides. READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic and environmental risk factors of cervical carcinoma in Situ

    Author : Agnetha Josefsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Cervical carcinoma; Human papillomavirus; exonuclease assay; persistence; viral copy number; quantitation; p53; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Invasive cervical cancer is the third most common cancer form among women. In 1990 there were approximately 370,000 new cases diagnosed in the world. The risk of morbidity and mortality of cervical cancer among women is a problem, particularly in the developing countries. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic Risk Factors for Cervical Carcinoma in situ

    Author : Anna Beskow; Peter L Stern; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Cervical carcinoma; human papillomavirus; viral load; long-term infection; HLA class II; p53; E6 variant; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are implicated in 99.7 % of cervical cancer cases but require the co-operation of other factors. To investigate potential genetic risk factors we have typed the HLA class II DRB1 and DQB1 loci in 478 women diagnosed with cervical carcinoma in situ and in 608 age-matched controls. READ MORE
