  1. 1. Coil Design and Related Studies for the Fusion-Fission Reactor Concept SFLM Hybrid

    Author : Anders Hagnestål; Olov Ågren; Vladimir Moiseenko; Ladislav Bardos; Jan Scheffel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion; Fission; Hybrid reactor; Actinides; Mirror Machine; Quadrupolar mirror; Coils; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : A fusion-fission (hybrid) reactor is a combination of a fusion device and a subcritical fission reactor, where the fusion device acts as a neutron source and the power is mainly produced in the fission core. Hybrid reactors may be suitable for transmutation of transuranic isotopes in the spent nuclear fuel, due to the safety margin on criticality imposed by the subcritical fission core. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modeling and Verification of Ultra-Fast Electro-Mechanical Actuators for HVDC Breakers

    Author : Ara Bissal; Göran Engdahl; Elena Lomonova; KTH; []
    Keywords : Actuators; Armature; Capacitors; Circuit breakers; Coils; Damping; Eddy currents; Elasticity; Electro-mechanical devices; Electromagnetic forces; Finite element methods; HVDC transmission; Image motion analysis; Magnetic domains; Magnetic flux; Magnetic forces; Magnetic materials; Magnets; Thermal analysis; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The continuously increasing demand for clean renewable energy has rekindled interest in multi-terminal high voltage direct current (HVDC) grids. Although such grids have several advantages and a great potential, their materialization has been thwarted due to the absence of HVDC breakers. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the Design of Ultra-fast Electro-Mechanical Actuators

    Author : Ara Bissal; Göran Engdahl; Torbjörn Lembke; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electro-mechanical drive; Circuit breakers; HVDC transmission; Eddy currents; Finite element; Electromagnetic; Thermal; Mechanical; Coils; Armature; Image motion analysis.;

    Abstract : The continuously increasing demand for connecting electric grids with remote renewable energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaic cells has rekindled interest in high voltage direct current (HVDC) multi-terminal networks. Although HVDC networks have numerous benefits, their adoption relies entirely on the availability of HVDC circuit breakers which, compared to traditional alternating current circuit breakers, have to operate in a time frame of milliseconds. 4. 4. Modelling the transient response of windings, laminated steel coresand electromagnetic power devices by means of lumped circuits : With special reference to windings with a coaxial insulation system

    Author : Pär Holmberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Transient response; frequency response; electromagnetic transient analysis; circuit modeling; eddy currents; skin effect; windings; coils; magnetic cores; cables; electric machines; rotating electric machines; transformers; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Electricity; Esp The Study Of Transients and Discharges; elektricitetslära; ssk studiet av transienter och urladdning;

    Abstract : Electromagnetic transients impinging on electromagnetic power devices - such as electric machines, transformers and reactors - can stress the design severely. Thus the magnitudes of the transients are often decisive for the design of the devices. Further, the operation of a device can be transient in itself. READ MORE

  5. 5. Magnetic Fields and Induced Power in the Induction Heating of Aluminium Billets

    Author : Mark William Kennedy; Ragnhild E. Aune; Andreas Westermoen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Induction; heating; billets; coils; magnetic fields;

    Abstract : Induction heating is a common industrial process used for the reheating of billets before extrusion or forging. In this work the influence of the coil and work piece geometry, the effect of the electrical properties of the work piece, and the coil current and frequency, on the magnetic flux density and resulting work piece heating rates were studied.
