  1. 1. Ions in cold electrostatic storage devices

    Author : Peter Reinhed; Henning Schmidt; Henrik Cederquist; Jason Greenwood; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylfysik; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : We have constructed a compact purely electrostatic ion-beam trap, ConeTrap, which we have mounted inside a double-walled vacuum chamber. In the inner vacuum chamber, we can obtain ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions and reach thermal equilibrium at well controlled temperatures down to 10 K. READ MORE

    Abstract : Islet transplantation has found its niche in diabetes treatment. It has contributed to a better quality of life and better glycemic control of patients with diabetes suffering from severe hypoglycemia that are not eligible for vascularized pancreas transplantation. Islet isolation is a technically challenging procedure. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phase Equilibrium-aided Design of Phase Change Materials from Blends : For Thermal Energy Storage

    Author : Saman Nimali Gunasekara; Viktoria Martin; Justin NingWei Chiu; Torsten Fransson; Ana Ines Fernandez; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal energy storage TES ; phase change material PCM ; phase diagram; congruent melting; compound; solid solution; eutectic; peritectic; Energiteknik; Energy Technology; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Climate change is no longer imminent but eminent. To combat climate change, effective, efficient and smart energy use is imperative. Thermal energy storage (TES) with phase change materials (PCMs) is one attractive choice to realize this. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the behaviour of tailings dams : Management in cold regions

    Author : Roger Knutsson; Jan Laue; Andy Fourie; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Associated to mining activities there is mine waste generated. The residues left over from mineralextraction processes are referred to as tailings, normally stored in surface tailings facilities. Thefacilities are usually confined by embankment dams, so called tailings dams. READ MORE

  5. 5. Energy Efficiency through Thermal Energy Storage : Possibilities for the Swedish Building Stock

    Author : Johan Heier; Viktoria Martin; Chris Bales; Signhild Gehlin; Högskolan Dalarna; []

    Abstract : The need for heating and cooling in buildings constitutes a considerable part of the total energy use in a country and reducing this need is of outmost importance in order to reach national and international goals for reducing energy use and emissions. One important way of reaching these goals is to increase the proportion of renewable energy used for heating and cooling of buildings. READ MORE
