  1. 1. Compacted graphite iron : On solidification phenomena related to shrinkage defects

    Author : Björn Domeij; Attila Diószegi; Babette Tonn; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Compacted graphite iron; Spheroidal graphite iron; Solidification; Microsegregation; Porosity; Kompaktgrafitjärn; segjärn; stelning; mikrosegregation; porositet;

    Abstract : An improved understanding of solidification of compacted graphite iron (CGI) is necessary to predict shrinkage related casting defects. Spheroidal graphite is not only found in ductile iron (SGI) but usually also in CGI, but its characteristics and role in this material is less understood. READ MORE

  2. 2. The influence of graphite morphology on the elastic behaviour of cast irons

    Author : Torsten Sjögren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Cast iron; flake graphite; compacted graphite; spheroidal graphite; elastic behaviour; modulus of elasticity; graphite modulus of elasticity; nodularity; aspect ratio; plastic deformation; acoustic emission; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The morphology of the graphite phase largely controls the resulting properties of different grades of cast iron. In flake graphite cast irons, the mechanical properties are low while the thermal conductivity is high. In contrast, with spheroidal graphite cast irons, the mechanical properties are high while the thermal conductivity is low. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influences of the Graphite Phase on Elastic and Plastic Deformation Behaviour of Cast Irons

    Author : Torsten Sjögren; Ingvar L. Svensson; Sten Johansson; Jorge Sikora; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast iron; Flake graphite; Compacted graphite; Spheroidal graphite; Elastic deformation; Plastic deformation; Modulus of elasticity; Graphite modulus of elasticity; Strength coefficient; Strain hardening exponent; Acoustic emission; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Abstract : The amount and morphology of the graphite phase largely controls the resulting properties of cast iron. For instance, in flake graphite cast irons the mechanical properties are low while the thermal conductivity is high. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the solidification of compacted and spheroidal graphite irons

    Author : Björn Domeij; Attila Diószegi; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Compacted graphite iron; Spheroidal graphite iron; Solidification; Microsegregation; Kompaktgrafitjärn; segjärn; stelning; mikrosegregation;

    Abstract : A good understanding of the solidification process of a cast material is essential to understand how the combination of alloy composition and the casting process variables combines into the solid cast component and its performance. The wrong combination may result in poor performance or casting defects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron: Influences of Microstructure on the Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron

    Author : Daniel Holmgren; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : EBSD; Laser Flash Technique; Modelling; Spheroidal Graphite; Lamellar Graphite; Primary Austenite; Compacted Graphite; Pearlite; Ferrite; Thermal Conductivity;

    Abstract : The thermal transport properties of cast iron are important in high temperature applications,where the temperatures should be kept low and the thermal gradients within the componentsmall. Dimensional and microstructural changes, thermally induced stresses and even failuremight be catastrophic consequences of intense and/or unevenly distributed temperatures. READ MORE
