  1. 16. A Study On Factor Influencing the Microstructure and Shrinkage Porosity Formation in Compacted Graphite Iron

    Author : Sadaf Vazehrad; Pär Jönsson; Attila Dioszegi; Steve Dawson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CGI; LGI; SGI; Solidification; Microstructure; Shrinkage porosity; Eutectic colony; Microsegregation;

    Abstract : During the last decades, an intensive effort has been dedicated to introduce compacted graphite iron (CGI) for truck engine components as its intermediate graphite morphology provides an increased tensile property compared to lamellar cast iron (LGI) and a better thermal conductivity compared to nodular cast iron (SGI). However, the narrow production technology window in this cast iron grade requires increased technological discipline. READ MORE

  2. 17. Machinability Testing of Materials in Metal Cutting with Focus on Compacted Graphite Iron and Cutting Fluids

    Author : Varun Nayyar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; UTS.; Boring; Drilling; Cutting Fluid; Turning; Milling; Force; Wear; Force; Torque; Compressed air; CGI; Hardness; Tool Life; Material Properties; Chip Microstructure; Tapping;

    Abstract : Due to the stringent demands for lower emission from trucks require better mechanical properties of the material to be used in the engines. Better efficiency necessitates higher peak pressure in the engines and for traditionally used material, Flake Graphite Iron (FGI), the mechanical properties starts to reach the limit of what the material can withstand. 3. 18. The influence of microstructure on mechanical and tribological properties of lamellar and compacted irons in engine applications

    Author : Rohollah Ghasemi; Anders E. W. Jarfors; Ricardo César Dommarco; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast iron; Si solution-strengthened CGI; microstructure; mechanical properties; modelling and simulation; tribology; abrasive wear; scratch testing;

    Abstract : Lamellar graphite iron (LGI) is commonly used in diesel engine applications such as piston rings–cylinder liner where an excellent combination of physical and tribological properties is essential to avoid scuffing and bore polishing issues. The excellent tribological behaviour of LGI alloys is related to the graphite lamellas, which act as solid lubricant agents by feeding onto the tribosurfaces under sliding conditions. READ MORE

  4. 19. Slag/Metal Metallurgy in Iron and Steel Melts

    Author : Johan Ekengård; Pär Jönsson; Attila Dioszegi; Johan Björkvall; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; austenit; syreaktivitet; slagg; fördelning; primär dendrit; metalldroppar; lamellär grafit; svavel; kompaktgrafit; skänk; nodulär grafit; raffinering; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : In this work, the metal and slag phase mixing in three steps of a ladle refining operation of steel melts and for an oxygen balance during cooling of cast iron melts have been studied at two Swedish steel plants and at two Swedish cast iron foundries, respectively. In order to predict the oxygen activity in the steel bulk in equilibrium with the top slag as well as in metal droplets in the top slag in equilibrium with the top slag, three slag models were used. 5. 20. Modeling of cast iron materials related to machining

    Author : Goran Ljustina; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machining simulation; Microstructure; Fracture; Johnson Cook plasticity;

    Abstract : A microstructure level simulation model of cast iron machining based on micrograph image analysis has been developed. The simulation tool has been developed for theorthogonal machining process involving 2D representations of a range of cast iron microstructures. READ MORE
