  1. 1. Numerical Computations of Wakes Behind Wind Farms : A tool to study Farm to Farm interaction

    Author : Ola Eriksson; Stefan Ivanell; Anna Rutgersson; Simon-Philippe Breton; Philippe Chatelain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wind turbine; Wind power; Wind farm; Wakes; Long distance wakes; Farm-Farm; Farm to farm interaction; Wind farm cluster; Large Eddy simulations; LES; Actuator disc method; ACD; CFD; Ellipsys3D; Prescribed boundary layer; PBL; Forced boundary layer; FBL; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : More and larger wind farms are planned offshore. As the most suitable sites to build are limited these new wind farms will be constructed near to each other in so called wind farm clusters. Behind the wind turbines in these farms there is a disrupted flow of air called a wake that is characterized by reduced wind speed and increased turbulence. READ MORE

  2. 2. Human response to wind turbine noise : perception, annoyance and moderating factors

    Author : Eja Pedersen; Sten Ljunggren; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Noise; Environmental exposure; Wind; Audio-visual interaction; Low-level noise exposure; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; wind turbines; noise annoyance; sound perception; audio-visual interaction; low-level noise exposure;

    Abstract : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to describe and gain an understanding of how people who live in the vicinity of wind turbines are affected by wind turbine noise, and how individual, situational and visual factors, as well as sound properties, moderate the response.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a flat, mainly rural area in Sweden, with the objective to estimate the prevalence of noise annoyance and to examine the dose-response relationship between A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) and perception of and annoyance with wind turbine noise. 3. 3. Numerical study on instability and interaction of wind turbine wakes

    Author : Sasan Sarmast; Dan S. Henningson; Per-Åge Krogstad; KTH; []

    Abstract : The optimization of new generation of the wind farms is dependent on our understanding of wind turbine wake development, wake dynamics and the interaction of the wakes. The overall goal of the optimization is decreasing the fatigue loading and increasing the power production of the wind farms. READ MORE

  4. 4. On Design and Analysis of a Novel Transverse Flux Generator for Direct-driven Wind Application

    Author : Dmitry Svechkarenko; Chandur Sadarangani; Zi-Qiang Zhu; KTH; []
    Keywords : Transverse flux machines; permanent magnet machines; finite element analysis; direct-driven generator; offshore wind turbine; renewable energy;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the analysis of a permanent magnet synchronous generator suited for direct-drivenwind turbines inmegawatt class. The higher specific torque and power density of a transverse flux permanent magnet machine in comparison to conventional radial-flux machines make it a promising solution for direct-driven wind turbine generators.
