  1. 1. The Klimontovich description of complex plasma systems : Low frequency electrostatic modes, spectral densities of fluctuations and collision integrals

    Author : Panagiotis Tolias; Lars Blomberg; Carmine Castaldo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; complex plasmas; dusty plasmas; Klimontovich equations; kinetic theory; dust acoustic waves; collision integrals;

    Abstract : Plasmas seeded with solid particulates of nanometer to micron sizes (complex plasma systems) are a ubiquitous feature of intergalactic, interstellar and planetary environments but also of plasma processing applications or even fusion devices. Their novel aspects compared with ideal multi-component plasmas stem from (i) the large number of elementary charges residing on the grain surface, (ii) the variability of the charge over mass ratio of the dust component, (iii) the inherent openness and dissipative nature of such systems. 2. 2. Large Eddy Simulation of Complex Turbulent Flows

    Author : Magnus Berglund; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gases; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD ; Large Eddy Simulation; Complex Turbulent Flows; plasma; Gaser; fluiddynamik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the Large Eddy Simulation methodology and its application to predict complex turbulent flows at high Reynolds numbers, and at times also with high Mach numbers. The meaning of the word ?complex? refers both to the presence of complex flow phenomena and the, often, complex geometry of man-made devices restricting the flow. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nonlinear Dust Particle Dynamics and Collective Effects in Complex Plasmas

    Author : Gianfranco Sorasio; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Complex Dusty Plasmas; Self excited; Nonlinear; Forced Oscillations; Electrostatic Instabilities in current-carrying magnetoplasmas; Cross-field instabilities in magnetized dusty plasmas; Dust Acoustic Waves; Electrostatic Dust Cyclotron Waves; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Theoretical studies of dusty plasmas have been performed by focusing attention principally on collective phenomena and on grain motion. This thesis consists of a collection of seven published papers that explore both the collective behavior of a complex plasma system as well as the dynamics of grains in plasmas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Test Charge Response of a Dusty Plasma with Grain Size Distribution and Charging Dynamics

    Author : Muhammad Shafiq; Michael A. Raadu; Jens Juul Rasmussen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dusty plasmas; Complex plasmas; Grain size distribution; Grain charging dynamics; Lorentzian distribution; Kappa distribution; Test charge response; Delayed shielding; Energy loss; Drag force; Wake field.; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis reports analytical and numerical results for the electrostatic response of a dusty plasma to a moving test charge. Two important physical aspects of dusty plasmas, namely grain size distribution and grain charging dynamics were taken into account. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dusty plasma response to a moivng test charge

    Author : Muhammad Shafiq; Michael A. Raadu; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Dusty Plasmas; Complex Plasmas; Grain size distribution; Grain charging dynamics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis reports analytical results for the electrostatic response to a test charge moving through dusty plasma. Two particular cases for a slowly moving test charge, namely, grain size distribution and grain charging dynamics are considered. READ MORE
