  1. 1. Compton Scattering from the Deuteron at Low Energies

    Author : Magnus Lundin; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Compton scattering; photonuclear reactions; deuteron; differential cross sections; 50-70 MeV; polarizability; tagged photons; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Lundin;

    Abstract : A series of three Compton scattering experiments on deuterium have been performed at the high-resolution tagged-photon facility MAX-lab located in Lund, Sweden. The 50 < Eg < 70 MeV tagged photons were scattered from a liquid deuterium target and detected simultaneously in three (10"x10") NaI detectors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Relativistic effects in Compton scattering of photons from bound electron states

    Author : A. Roland Ribberfors; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : What is light? A correct answer to this question is: I don't know, but I can see some of its properties"! It is exciting to study such a complex thing and to search for models which can help us to try to understand, in a proper way, some of the most interesting behavior of light. We see the sunshine and the radiation makes us warm, undoubtly it must be some kind of energy? Interference experiments with monochromatic light show that the radiation has wave-like properties, but for example scattering experiments predict a particle nature. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Kerr-full Study of Higher-Spin Amplitudes : An on-shell construction of higher-spin amplitudes for black holes and strings

    Author : Paolo Pichini; Henrik Johansson; Donal O'Connell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scattering amplitudes; higher-spin theory; black holes; string theory; gravitational waves; Theoretical Physics; Teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : Recently, it was shown that Kerr black holes can be described via the classical infinite-spin limit of a special class of scattering amplitudes in a massive higher-spin quantum field theory. Although this approach has successfully obtained state-of-the-art results for spinning black-hole binaries, only the three-point amplitude that describes Kerr is known in full generality and a full understanding of the underlying Lagrangian is still missing. 4. 4. Dosimetry in brachytherapy : application of the Monte Carlo method to single source dosimetry and use of correlated sampling for accelerated dose calculations

    Author : Håkan Hedtjärn; David Rogers; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Three issues related to brachytherapy dosimetry are addressed in this thesis. (1) The prospect of using Compton scattering to measure energy spectra from a high dose-rate (HDR) 192Ir source is discussed and a Compton spectrometer evaluated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of PoGOLite performance and background rejection capabilities

    Author : Mózsi Kiss; Mark Pearce; Staffan Carius; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The Polarized Gamma-ray Observer (PoGOLite) is a balloon-borne instrument capable of measuring as low as 10% polarization from a 200 mCrab source in a sixhour °ight. A wide array of sources can be studied, including pulsars, neutron stars, accretion discs and jets from active galactic nuclei. READ MORE
