  1. 1. On the numerical modelling of impinging jets heat transfer

    Author : Mirko Bovo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heat transfer; Jet; LES; CFD;

    Abstract : This thesis collects two studies on heat transfer in impinging jets and on methods for modeling flows of this kind using CFD. Stationary impinging jets with different nozzle to wall distances (z/D = 2 and 6) and Re (10000, 20000, 23000, 30000) are modeled. Steady-state models capture the important features of heat transfer in these jets. READ MORE

    Abstract : In order to meet the need for increased electrification, and at the same time reduce the total demand for electric energy, behavior change and technological innovation is needed. Over the decades power density of electric motors have increased, leading to increased demands on the cooling system design and performance. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer Simulations for Complex Industrial Applications : From Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes towards Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics

    Author : Md Lokman Hosain; Rebei Bel Fdhila; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; Erik Dahlquist; Hailong Li; Moncho Gomez Gesteira; Mälardalens högskola; []

    Abstract : Optimal process control can significantly enhance energy efficiency of heating and cooling processes in many industries. Process control systems typically rely on measurements and so called grey or black box models that are based mainly on empirical correlations, in which the transient characteristics and their influence on the control parameters are often ignored. 4. 4. Estimation of Thermal and Hydraulic Characteristics of Compact Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

    Author : Vijaya Sekhar Gullapalli; Institutionen för energivetenskaper; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brazed plate heat exchangers; CFD; heat transfer; pressure drop; heat exchanger selection software; transcritical-CO2 calculations; heat exchanger rating; evaporation; condensation; refrigerant properties; discretized calculations;

    Abstract : This thesis work presents various performance estimation methods of compact brazed plate heat exchangers (BPHE) operating in single phase, condenser, evaporator, cascaded and transcritical applications. Such methods play a vital role in development of heat exchanger selection software and during geometry parameter estimation in the new product development process. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Effective Convectivity Model for Simulation and Analysis of Melt Pool Heat Transfer in a Light Water Reactor Pressure Vessel Lower Head

    Author : Chi Thanh Tran; Tomas Lefvert; Harri Tuomisto; KTH; []

    Abstract : Severe accidents in a Light Water Reactor (LWR) have been a subject of intense research for the last three decades. The research in this area aims to reach understanding of the inherent physical phenomena and reduce the uncertainties in their quantification, with the ultimate goal of developing models that can be applied to safety analysis of nuclear reactors, and to evaluation of the proposed accident management schemes for mitigating the consequences of severe accidents.
