  1. 21. Deep Neural Networks and Image Analysis for Quantitative Microscopy

    Author : Sajith Kecheril Sadanandan; Carolina Wählby; Petter Ranefall; Ewert Bengtsson; Jeroen van der Laak; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Deep neural networks; convolutional neural networks; image analysis; quantitative microscopy; bright-field microscopy; Datoriserad bildbehandling; Computerized Image Processing;

    Abstract : Understanding biology paves the way for discovering drugs targeting deadly diseases like cancer, and microscopy imaging is one of the most informative ways to study biology. However, analysis of large numbers of samples is often required to draw statistically verifiable conclusions. READ MORE

  2. 22. Fast Methods for Vascular Segmentation Based on Approximate Skeleton Detection

    Author : Kristína Lidayová; Hans Frimmel; Ewert Bengtsson; Örjan Smedby; Alejandro F. Frangi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; medical image analysis; automatic skeleton extraction; vascular segmentation; coverage segmentation; convolutional neural network classifier; CT angiography; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Abstract : Modern medical imaging techniques have revolutionized health care over the last decades, providing clinicians with high-resolution 3D images of the inside of the patient's body without the need for invasive procedures. Detailed images of the vascular anatomy can be captured by angiography, providing a valuable source of information when deciding whether a vascular intervention is needed, for planning treatment, and for analyzing the success of therapy. 3. 23. Document Image Processing for Handwritten Text Recognition : Deep Learning-based Transliteration of Astrid Lindgren’s Stenographic Manuscripts

    Author : Raphaela Heil; Anders Hast; Ekta Vats; Fredrik Wahlberg; Andreas Fischer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; document image processing; handwritten text recognition; stenography; strikethrough; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Abstract : Document image processing and handwritten text recognition have been applied to a variety of materials, scripts, and languages, both modern and historic. They are crucial building blocks in the on-going digitisation efforts of archives, where they aid in preserving archival materials and foster knowledge sharing. READ MORE

  4. 24. Analysis of Human Brain MRI : Contributions to Regional Volume Studies

    Author : Richard Nordenskjöld; Joel Kullberg; Elna-Marie Larsson; Lars Johansson; Håkan Ahlström; Göran Starck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MRI; Brain; Volume; Hemisphere; Intracranial volume; Image analysis; Computerized Image Analysis; Datoriserad bildanalys;

    Abstract : Many disorders are associated with regional brain volumes. The analysis of these volumes from MR images often requires sequential processing steps such as localization and delineation. READ MORE

  5. 25. Methods for Processing and Analysis of Biomedical TEM Images

    Author : Amit Suveer; Ida-Maria Sintorn; Carolina Wählby; Natasa Sladoje; Jari Hyttinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; image analysis; image processing; deep learning; transmission electron microscopy; denoising; super-resolution reconstruction; registration; detection; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Abstract : Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) has the high resolving capability and high clinical significance; however, the current manual diagnostic procedure using TEM is complicated and time-consuming, requiring rarely available expertise for analyzing TEM images of the biological specimen. This thesis addresses the bottlenecks of TEM-based analysis by proposing image analysis methods to automate and improve critical time-consuming steps of currently manual diagnostic procedures.
