  1. 1. Reconstruction of Past European Land Cover Based on Fossil Pollen Data : Gaussian Markov Random Field Models for Compositional Data

    Author : Behnaz Pirzamanbein; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spatial Statistics; Adaptive Markov Chain Monte Carlo; Dirichlet Observation; Confidence Region; Palaeoecology; Past Human Land Use; Stochastic Partial Differential Equation;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to develop statistical models to reconstruct past land cover composition and human land use based on fossil pollen records over Europe for different time periods over the past 6000 years. Accurate maps of past land cover and human land use are needed when studying the interaction between climate and land surface, and the effects of human land use on past climate. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards a flexible statistical modelling by latent factors for evaluation of simulated responses to climate forcings

    Author : Ekaterina Fetisova; Gudrun Brattström; Anders Moberg; Rolf Sundberg; Johan Lindström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Confirmatory Factor Analysis; Measurement Error models; Structural Equation models; Wald confidence interval; Fieller confidence set; Climate model simulations; Climate forcings; Climate proxy data; Detection and Attribution; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, using the principles of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the cause-effect concept associated with structural equation modelling (SEM), a new flexible statistical framework for evaluation of climate model simulations against observational data is suggested. The design of the framework also makes it possible to investigate the magnitude of the influence of different forcings on the temperature as well as to investigate a general causal latent structure of temperature data. 3. 3. Oral anticoagulation and stroke risk

    Author : Vilhelm Sjögren; Anders Själander; Per Wester; Peter J Svensson; Mia von Euler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; warfarin; atrial fibrillation; dabigatran; rivaroxaban; apixaban; low-molecular-weight heparin; bridging;

    Abstract : Background: The risk of ischaemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and mechanical heart valve (MHV) prostheses can be reduced by oral anticoagulation (OAC), which increases the risk of serious bleeding. The aims of this thesis were [1] to find out how effective and safe warfarin is where treatment quality is high, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Prediction of Spontaneous Preterm Birth : Clinical and Immunological Aspects

    Author : Maria Svenvik; Jan Ernerudh; Marie Blomberg; Maria Jenmalm; Teresa Cobo; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Background: Preterm birth (PTB), defined as birth before 37 weeks of gestation, accounts for most neonatal death and morbidity. Accurate prediction is a pre-requisite for the prevention and proper management of PTB. However, methods for prediction are unsatisfactory, although sonographic cervical length has a moderate predictive value. READ MORE

  5. 5. Preparing midwives as a human resource for maternal health : pre-service education and scope of practice in Gujarat, India

    Author : Bharati Sharma; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Midwifery scope of practice;

    Abstract : One key strategy to achieve reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality is to scale up the availability of skilled birth attendants (SBAs). The staff nurses (i.e., registered nurse and midwives) are skilled birth attendants recognized by the government of India. READ MORE
