  1. 1. Finite element procedures for crack path prediction in multi-axial fatigue

    Author : Dimosthenis Floros; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fracture mechanics; Configurational forces; Mixed-mode; Numerical simulation; Rolling contact fatigue; Plasticity;

    Abstract : Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) cracks in rails are among the most detrimental railway track defects regarding reliability and cost. The cracks typically grow in shear mode up to a certain length at which they might arrest or kink into a more tensile-driven growth. READ MORE

  2. 2. The effect of inelastic deformation on crack loading

    Author : Dimosthenis Floros; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical simulation; Mixed mode; Configurational mechanics; Gradient plasticity;

    Abstract : Rolling contact fatigue (RCF) cracks in rails are among the most detrimental railway track defects, in relation to reliability and cost. The cracks grow in a mixed mode II & III, which in combination with the rotating stress field in the neighborhood of the crack-tip, large plastic deformations on the rail surface, crack face friction due to the compressive stresses from the wheel load and anisotropic crack growth resistance, add to the complexity related to the study of RCF cracks. 3. 3. Elastic-plastic fracture mechanics - Application to rolling contact fatigue in rails

    Author : Johan Tillberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; FEM; rolling contact fatigue; railway mechanics; Elastic-plastic fracture mechanics; material forces;

    Abstract : Railway structures represent complex mechanical problems involving wave propagation, plastic deformations and material degradation. The wheel-rail contact loads subject the material to repeated cycles of complex stress states resulting in rolling contact fatigue (RCF). READ MORE

  4. 4. Elastic-Plastic Fracture Mechanics and RCF in Rails

    Author : Johan Tillberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RCF; elastic-plastic fracture mechanics; Material-forces; Multiple crack interaction;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns issues regarding the modeling and numerical simulation of singularcracks and their propagation in the context of Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) in rails.Typically, such cracks are associated with squats and head-checks in the rail head. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interfacial properties of some carbohydrate-based surfactants and polymers

    Author : Atte J. Kampulainen; KTH; []
    Keywords : Pure science;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is primarily to investigate theadsorption of surfactants, in particular to the airwaterinterface. The effects of the head-group and the hydrocarbonchain are of special interest. READ MORE
