1. Purification of general RNA polymerase II transcription factors from mouse for studies of proliferation-specific transcription
Abstract : Accurate initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase II depends on general transcription factors (GTFs), which include the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and the transcription factors (TF) IIB, IIF, IIE and IIH. In order to reconstitute mouse transcription in vitro, we cloned the genes encoding mouse TFIIB, and both subunits of TFIIE and TFIIF from a mouse cDNA library. READ MORE

2. Marsupial Mitogenomics
Abstract : The relationships of the mammalian infraclass Marsupialia have been investigated by phylogenetic analysis using completely sequenced mitochondrial genomes. The organisation and structure of the marsupial mitochondrial genomes deviates from the general mammalian structure. READ MORE

3. Anti-parasitic and anti-viral immune responses in insects
Abstract : Insects encounter many microorganisms in nature and to survive they have developed counter measures against the invading pathogens. In Drosophila melanogaster research on insect immunity has mainly been focused on infections by bacteria and fungi. READ MORE

4. Telomeric DNA in Chironomus, a naturally telomerase-free system
Abstract : Telomeres are specialized complexes of DNA and associated proteins that protect the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes. Although most organisms have short repeated DNA sequences at their telomeres, which are specified and maintained by the enzyme telomerase, there are a few exceptions. READ MORE

5. Innate Immunity in Insects, Function and Regulation of Hemolin from Hyalophora cecropia
Abstract : Insects are useful models for the study of innate immune reactions and development. The distinction between recognition mechanisms preceding the breakdown of apoptotic cells during metamorphosis, and the breakdown of cells in response to infections, is unclear. READ MORE
