11. Integrated design and construction for bridges: key aspects and benefits
Abstract : The rate of productivity and innovation capacity within the Swedish construction industry of today is perceived to lead to a poor return of investment within infrastructures. Bridges, are commonly designed for a long service-life, and all stages after realization is greatly dependent on and constrained by decisions made during design and construction of the structure. 12. Light-weighting Methodology in Rail Vehicle Design through Introduction of Load Carrying Sandwich Panels
Abstract : Lightweight design in rail vehicles has been important for quite some time. Structures have been optimised to fulfill their purpose and cut unnecessary weight to reach allowable axle loads. Classically this is done by using steel, thin-walled structures, throughout the car body, or, alternatively, power-pressed aluminum profiles. READ MORE

13. Steel Fibres in Reinforced Concrete Structures of Complex Shapes: Structural Behaviour and Design Perspectives
Abstract : In concrete structures of complex geometries, the formability of concrete is an asset. However, complex geometries introduce time-demanding form and reinforcement works. READ MORE

14. Extreme environments - Design and human factors considerations
Abstract : The starting point of this research is based on my experience at SICSA performing research and design for extreme environments, including orbital and lunar planetary facilities, disaster shelters, polar stations and offshore surface and submersible habitats. This thesis explores what aspects and issues of design and planning processes in extreme environments have to be addressed in a similar way and therefore may be used as a basis for further work toward PhD thesis to develop a methodological planning tool or matrix. 15. Co-firing complex biomass in a CFB boiler : ash transformation, corrosion control and materials selection
Abstract : The effects of greenhouse gas net emissions on global warming, stricter legislation on waste handling, and the pursuit of ever cheaper heat- and power production are all important factors driving the introduction of complex fuels in incineration plants. However - without fundamental knowledge regarding ash transformation, corrosion control, and materials selection – this introduction of potentially economically and environmentally beneficial fuels, might instead cause economic loss and environmentally adverse effects.
