    Abstract : How can it be, that in our rapidly changing world certain things remain recognisably the same for such a long time? This dissertation is concerned with the economic geography of path-dependence and seeks to explain selected everyday examples of continuity and change. How can French restaurants and chefs be successful for decades despite changes in taste? Why are cars powered by fossil fuels still around while there are many novel and cleaner alternatives? What explains the re-invention of local food products in spite of the influx of many new products from around the world? These are the question this dissertation tries to explain as spatial expressions of ‘path-dependence’. READ MORE

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to study how cannabis is constructed in contemporary Sweden, which policy responses are promoted as rational, and how international cannabis trends are received in this context. The four papers are the result of analyzing empirical material from three different sub-studies: 1) a qualitative study of online discussions about cannabis and drug policy, 2) a qualitative and comparative study of print media articles from 2002 and 2012, and 3) a qualitative study of oral presentations from cannabis information symposia. Alongside increased levels of migration, this question is increasingly being raised. This thesis aimed to expand the understanding about attitudes towards FGC held by Somali men and women in Sweden, and thereby to identify potential factors that impede or facilitate the cessation of FGC.
