  1. 1. Modelling of Drug Release from Reservoir and Matrix Formulations - Multiple Unit Dosage Forms and Swelling and Dissolving Matrix Systems

    Author : Per Borgquist; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; swelling; XEDS; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik; Pharmaceutical and related technologies; Läkemedelsteknik och relaterad teknik; simulation; single pellet; single-unit release; SEM; reservoir system; poly ethylene oxide ; film-coated; matrix; mathematical model; diffusion; pellet shape; controlled release; polymer dissolution; modelling; ethyl cellulose; Coating; multiple-unit release;

    Abstract : In this work, mathematical models have been developed describing drug release from film-coated reservoir systems as well as drug release and polymer dissolution from swelling and dissolving polymer tablets. The model derivation of both systems is based on a mechanistic approach. The model describing drug release from reservoir systems, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Water-swelling tablets based on hydrophobically modified poly(acrylic acid) - Effects of amphiphiles on swelling and drug release

    Author : Patrik Knöös; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drug deliver; Controlled release; Hydrophobically modified polymers; Surfactant-polymer interactions; Poorly soluble drug;

    Abstract : An important issue within the pharmaceutical world today is the increasing number of poorly soluble drugs. These often show a low bioavailability and a susceptibility to varying conditions in the intestine. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigation of the functionality related characteristics of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose for the release from matrix tablets

    Author : Anna Viridén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; functionality related characteristics; batch-to-batch variation; hydrophilic matrix tablets; hydroxypropyl methylcellulose; polymer characterisation; heterogeneous; drug release;

    Abstract : Hydrophilic matrix tablets are a compressed well mixed composite of drug substance and excipients including a hydrophilic polymer. When the tablet comes in contact with biological fluids, the hydrophilic polymer starts to dissolve, a process that decreases the water penetration through the tablet and involves dimensional changes of the tablet due to swelling of the solvated polymers.
