  1. 21. Design of Internal Cooling Passages: Investigation of Thermal Performance of Serpentine Passages

    Author : Waseem Siddique; Torsten Fransson; Bengt Sundén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gas turbine; heat transfer; CFD; Serpentine passages; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : Gas turbines are used to convert thermal energy into mechanical energy. The thermal efficiency of the gas turbine is directly related to the turbine inlet temperature. READ MORE

  2. 22. Service life estimations in the design of a PCM based night cooling system

    Author : Göran Hed; Christer Sjöström; Andrew James Miller; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building manufacturing engineering; Byggproduktionsteknik; Building engineering;

    Abstract : The use of Phase Change Material, PCM, to change the thermal inertia of lightweight buildings is investigated in the CRAFT project C-TIDE. It is a joint project with Italian and Swedish partners, representing both industry and research. PCMs are materials where the phase change enthalpy can be used for thermal storage. READ MORE

  3. 23. Influence of thermal mass on the heating and cooling demands of a building unit

    Author : Fredrik Ståhl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal mass; environmental impact; thermal comfort; heat storage; life cycle; building energy use; earth tube heat exchanger; comfort interval; heavy or light buildings; building structure;

    Abstract : The purpose of this work is to find to what extent the thermal properties of the building materials, the allowed indoor temperature swing, determined by the comfort interval, and, to some extent, the ventilation strategy can affect the heating and cooling demand of a building. It is well known that a thermally heavy building, that is a building with a high heat capacity, often demands less energy for heating and cooling and have a more stabile indoor temperature due to heat storage in the building structure. 4. 24. Preclinical Studies for Cryoprevention of Oral Mucositis

    Author : Java Walladbegi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Animal model; Chemotherapy; Cryotherapy; Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; Ice chips; Intraoral cooling device; Microcirculation; Randomized controlled trial; Tissue-engineered oral mucosa; Tissue oxygen saturation; Tolerability;

    Abstract : Oral mucositis (OM) is a debilitating adverse effect, with a prevalence of up to 80% in patients with cancer who are conditioned with high-dose chemotherapy prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In its mildest form, OM is characterized by erythema. However, as it worsens, it can give rise to painful ulcerations in the oral mucosa. READ MORE

  5. 25. Evaluation of Thermal Comfort and Night Ventilation in a Historic Office Building in Nordic Climate

    Author : Hossein Bakhtiari; Mathias Cehlin; Jan Akander; Abolfazl Hayati; Patrik Rohdin; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; historic buildings; office buildings; Nordic climate; thermal comfort; field on-site measurements; standardized questionnaire; building management system BMS ; night ventilation NV ; building energy simulation BES ; IDA-ICE; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Abstract : Envelopes with low thermal performance are common characteristics in European historic buildings resulting in insufficient thermal comfort and higher energy use compared to modern buildings. There are different types of applications for the European historic buildings such as historic churches, historic museums, historic theatres, etc. READ MORE
