1. Structure determination of beam sensitive crystals by rotation electron diffraction : the impact of sample cooling
Abstract : Electron crystallography is complementary to X-ray crystallography. Single crystal X-ray diffraction requires the size of a crystal to be larger than about 5 × 5 × 5 μm3 while a TEM allows a million times smaller crystals being studied. This advantage of electron crystallography has been used to solve new structures of small crystals. READ MORE

2. Modeling of Electron Cooling : Theory, Data and Applications
Abstract : The Vlasov technique is used to model the electron cooling force. Limitations of the applicability of the method is obtained by considering the perturbations of the electron plasma. READ MORE

3. Microstructural manipulation by laser irradiation of prepared samples : The ’Snapshot Method’
Abstract : Various metallurgical microstructures and their formation are studied in this thesis by using a laser beam to melt a variety of materials with different chemical compositions over a range of thermal cycles. The laser beam was used conventionally in a narrow gap multi-layer weld, used for welding large depths with filler wire additions, as well as a non-traditional simulated welding approach labelled here as the Snapshot method. 4. Direct-Ground Cooling Systems for Office Buildings: Design and Control Considerations
Abstract : Direct-ground cooling systems are defined as systems in which the ground is used as the only source for cooling mainly in commercial buildings. These systems benefit from exchanging heat with the ground, of which its temperature is basically constant below a certain depth year around. READ MORE

5. District Cooling – Towards Improved Substation Performance
Abstract : The global cooling demand in buildings is rapidly increasing and to supply this demand, district cooling is one solution. However, many district cooling systems suffer from low delta-Ts (receiving low return temperatures from the buildings connected to the system). READ MORE
