  1. 1. Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy : Genetic aetiology and as a risk factor in cataract surgery

    Author : Andreas Viberg; Berit Byström; Irina Golovleva; Patrik Danielson; Madeleine Zetterberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy; genetics; TCF4; trinucleotide repeat disorder; registry-based study; cataract surgery; outcome; PROM; corneal transplantation; dense cataract; posterior capsule rupture; oftalmiatrik; ophthalmology; Clinical Genetics; klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is a bilateral, often hereditary degenerative corneal disease, in which the disrupted endothelial cell function causes corneal swelling and reduced vision. An early clinical sign of FECD is corneal guttata, an irregularity of the endothelial layer. READ MORE

  2. 2. Corneal transplant outcome- a Swedish register

    Author : Margareta Claesson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Corneal transplantation; Quality register; Long term follow up; Astigmatism; Bullous keratopathy; Graft survival; Visual outcome;

    Abstract : Aim. The aim of this study was to present different aspects of the outcome after corneal transplantation based on data from the Swedish Cornea Register. Papers. The first paper describes the register and gives descriptive statistics and analysis of data from a two-year follow up, while the last paper presents data from a ten-year follow up. READ MORE

  3. 3. Multifunctional biomimetic materials for corneal regeneration

    Author : Mohammad Mirazul Islam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The cornea is the outermost layer of the eye, which is responsible for transmitting 95% of the incident light to the retina for vision and provides 70% of the focusing power of the eye. Corneal disease is a primary cause of blindness worldwide. READ MORE

  4. 4. Advanced surgeries, medicines and materials for corneal regeneration

    Author : Maria Xeroudaki; Neil Lagali; Beatrice Bourghardt Peebo; Per Fagerholm; Stefan Schrader; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Corneal transplantation is often the only treatment option in cases of corneal blindness, with the main challenges being the scarcity of human donors, risk for graft failure and suboptimal visual outcome due to suture-related issues. Alternative therapies are sought that either address the above transplantation issues directly or stimulate the cornea’s repair mechanism and regenerative properties to restore transparency without the need for transplantation. 5. 5. Visual outcome, ocular findings, and visual processing skills after allogeneic stem cell transplantation in children

    Author : Alba Lucia Törnquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Stem cell transplantation (SCT) offers a chance of cure in children with leukaemia and other life-threatening haematological, immunological, and metabolic diseases that do not respond to conventional treatment. Pre and post SCT, these children receive irradiation, and/or chemotherapy and immunosuppressive agents which like the primary disease may adversely affect the eye, the central nervous system as well as the posterior visual pathways and potentially threaten vision.
