  1. 26. Refractory angina pectoris. Patient characteristics, safety and long-term effects of spinal cord stimulation

    Author : Paulin Andréll; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Angina pectoris; Deep white matter disease; Epidemiology; Health care costs; Morbidity; Mortality; Quality of life; Spinal cord stimulation;

    Abstract : Refractory angina pectoris has been defined as severe angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease which cannot be controlled by conventional pharmacological or surgical therapy. The epidemiology of this condition is virtually unknown. During the last decades, additional treatment options have been developed for this condition. READ MORE

  2. 27. Clinically Unrecognized Myocardial Scars Detected by MRI

    Author : Raquel Espregueira Themudo; Tomas Bjerner; Andrew Arai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; unrecognized myocardial scars; myocardial infarction; epidemiology; magnetic resonance; computed topographic coronary angiography; exercise test; NT-proBNP; Radiology; Radiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : A high percentage of unrecognized myocardial infarctions (UMIs) seen at delayed-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DE-MRI) are not detected by ECG. DE-MRI-detected UMIs are independent predictors of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease. READ MORE

  3. 28. Psychosocial factors and prognosis in coronary heart disease

    Author : Krisztina László; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aim: This thesis aims to contribute to the better understanding of the role of psychosocial factors in coronary heart disease (CHD) by analysing (1) the relationship of income, anger expression and work stress with prognosis after a cardiac event, (2) potential explanations for these associations and (3) whether a combined intervention consisting of a psychosocial rehabilitation and medical treatment from a cardiologist affects psychosocial risk factors and prognosis in women CHD patients. Methods: Data from the Healthier Female Heart (HFH) study, a randomized controlled trial enrolling consecutively 247 women cardiac patients aged 75 years (papers I, II, IV) and data of 676 non-fatal acute myocardial infarction (AMI) cases from the Stockholm Heart Epidemiology Program (SHEEP) (paper III) were analysed. 4. 29. Insights into the relationship between coronary calcification and atherosclerosis risk factors

    Author : Rachel Nicoll; Michael Henein; Gunilla Olivecrona; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery calcification; risk factors; atherosclerosis; stenosis; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Introduction Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common cause of death in Europe and North America and early detection of atherosclerosis is a clinical priority. Diagnosis of CAD remains conventional angiography, although recent technology has introduced non-invasive imaging of coronary arteries using computed tomographic coronary angiography (CTCA), which enables the detection and quantification of coronary artery calcification (CAC).
