  1. 11. On Bayesian Decision Analysis for Evaluating Alternative Actions at Contaminated Sites

    Author : Jenny Norrman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; influence diagrams; Bayesian decision analysis; groundwater; data worth analysis; contaminated sites; decision analysis; risk analysis;

    Abstract : Today, contaminated land is a widespread infrastructural problem and it is widely recognised that returning all contaminated sites to background levels, or even to levels suitable for the most sensitive land use, is not technically or financially feasible. The large number of contaminated sites and the high costs of remediation, are strong incentives for applying cost-efficient investigation and remediation strategies that consider the inherent uncertainties. 2. 12. Exergy Analysis in Buildings : A complementary approach to energy analysis

    Author : Marco Molinari; Folke Björk; Gudni Jóhannesson; Ivo Martinac; KTH; []
    Keywords : Exergy; Energy; Building systems performance; Built environment.;

    Abstract : Though mandatory to be pursued, improved energy efficiency is not the only target to reach. The quality of energy has to be assessed as well. Most of the overall energy use in residential building is for low temperature heat, i.e. READ MORE

  3. 13. Total Cost Analysis in Logistics : Practical Execution, Learning, and Teaching in Higher Education

    Author : Björn Oskarsson; Maria Huge-Brodin; Jonas Hallström; Johan Woxenius; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cost is considered a crucial factor in much decision-making in private and public organisations. Therefore, the ability to calculate total estimated costs for different alternatives is important. However, such total cost analysis is a challenging task. READ MORE

  4. 14. Biomass Potential for Heat, Electricity and Vehicle Fuel in Sweden

    Author : Peter Hagström; Bengt Hillring; Per Olov Nilsson; Leif Gustafsson; Paul Mitchell; Skogsmästarskolan Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; bioenergy potential; biomass potential; cost analysis; emergy; energy analysis; energy scenarios; systems analysis; thermochemical conversion; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to determine how far a biomass quantity, equal to the potential produced within the Swedish borders, could cover the present energy needs inSwedenwith respect to economic and ecological circumstances. Three scenarios were studied where the available biomass was converted to heat, electricity and vehicle fuel. READ MORE

  5. 15. Life-Cycle Costing : Applications and Implementations in Bridge Investment and Management

    Author : Mohammed Safi; Raid Karoumi; Håkan Sundquist; Jan-Eric Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bridge; Cost; Life Cycle Cost Analysis; Procurement; Investment; Management;

    Abstract : A well-maintained bridge infrastructure is a fundamental necessity for a modern society that provides great value, but ensuring that it meets all the requirements sustainably and cost-effectively is challenging. Bridge investment and management decisions generally involve selection from multiple alternatives. READ MORE
