  1. 1. Nanofabrication of Single Electron Transistors and Evaluation of Miniature Biosensors

    Author : Linda G. M. Olofsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; miniaturization; nanoparticles; impedance; single electron tunneling; biosensors; surface plasmon resonance;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with miniaturization in two different fields: electronics and biosensing. The first part deals with fabrication and measurements of two nanoscale structures - a self-assembled single electron transistor and a (potential) single junction device. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Single Cooper Pair Box - a Quantum-Mechanical Electronic Circuit

    Author : David Gunnarsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum capacitance; quantum computing; single Cooper-pair box; SET; radio-frequency single-electron-transistor; macroscopic quantum coherence; Qubit;

    Abstract : In this thesis the single Cooper pair box (SCB) is investigated with a radio frequency single electron transistor (RF-SET). The RF-SET is used as an electrometer to detect the charge of the SCB. The SCB can be regarded as a quantum two-level system and could therefore be a possible qubit. READ MORE

  3. 3. Superconducting Qubits: Charge read-out and backaction

    Author : Andreas Käck; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : For quantum computers to become reality, not only do the qubits have to be carefully engineered to be well isolated during operation time, but this also puts great strain on the measurement setup. We have looked at the backaction from a single-electron transistor (SET), operated both in the normal and in the superconducting state, on a single Cooper-pair box qubit. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical properties of silver nanostructures prepared by electron beam lithography

    Author : Linda K Gunnarsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoelectronics; surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; single-electron tunneling; electron-beam lithography; nanofabrication; localized surface plasmon resonance; silver nanoparticles;

    Abstract : In this thesis, electron beam lithography (EBL) has been used to fabricate substrates for studies of nanoparticle optics, in particular for the investigation of noble metal nanoparticles and their tunable optical properties. The strong interaction of metal nanoparticles with light has its origin in the resonant excitation of collective oscillations of conduction electrons, so called localized surface plasmons (LSP).
