    Abstract : Background: In 2005, the Västerbotten County Council launched a child health promotion programme, “the Salut Programme”, in response to an alarming prevalence of overweight and obesity, and trends of increased dental caries, among young county citizens. The programme, initially developed in four pilot areas, is built on multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration and aims to support and strengthen health promotion activities in health care, social services and school settings.     Abstract : There has been a dramatic increase in the survival of extremely preterm children over the last decades, and the awareness of the consequences of extremely preterm birth on the developing brain is increasing. This thesis aimed at investigating the neurodevelopmental outcome of extremely preterm children at early school-age, focusing on visual-motor integration and motor impairments, and their relation to findings on early magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. This initiative was partly inspired by the mental health movement and the American child guidance clinics and the aim was to use the latest insights in psychiatry and psychology in order to offer advice and support for parents and other "upbringers of children" or, with a more cogent formulation, to "bring up the upbringers".
