6. Characterization of the cellular receptor for coxsackievirus and adenovirus
Abstract : CAR, the cellular receptor for coxsackievirus and adenovirus, was discovered in 1997. CAR is an evolutionary conserved transmembrane protein that belongs to the CTX subfamily within the large immunoglobulin superfamily. At the intracellular tail, CAR has a PDZ domain binding motif suggesting that CAR is part of a larger protein complex. READ MORE

7. Infection, early entry events and replication processes of picornaviruses
Abstract : The Picornaviridae is a large and diverse family of small RNA viruses, several of which have exhibited a distinct clinical and socioeconomic impact on human society. While many infections are asymptomatic, some members of this virus family have the potential to cause severe disease, including, but not limited to, poliomyelitis, myocarditis, meningitis, and foot-and-mouth disease. 8. Host-microbe interactions in coxsackievirus infection : focus on innate immunity
Abstract : Coxsackievirus group B (CVB) is a common virus that usually causes only mild symptoms in humans. However, occasionally these infections result in severe diseases like meningitis, myocarditis and pancreatitis. READ MORE

9. Interactions between the environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin and coxsackievirus infection : Experimental studies in mice
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the interactions between 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and infection. A model of human coxsackievirus type B3 (CB3) infection, adapted to A/J mice, was used. The effects on some immune cell populations and host resistance to CB3 infection were studied immediately after TCDD exposure and 3 months later. 10. Tailored conjugates of N-acetylneuraminic acid and small molecules that block virus cell attachment and entry
Abstract : Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites, unable to replicate without exploiting machinery andmaterials from host cells. Pandemics of viral diseases have had large impacts on human socieities and are continued threats to global health. READ MORE
