  1. 1. The Breakdown of the Protective Oxide on 11% Chromium Steel The Influence of Water Vapour and Gaseous KCl

    Author : Karin Segerdahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 11-Cr-steel; flow rate; water vapour; KCl g ; CrO2 OH 2; temperature dependence; oxidation; breakaway corrosion; chromium evaporation;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis is focused on the influence of water vapour on the oxidation of X20 steel (CrMoV 11 1). Three parameters were investigated; pH... READ MORE

  2. 2. The Influence of Water Vapour on the Oxidation Behaviour of High-temperature Materials Microstructure investigation using analytical electron microscopy

    Author : Jun Eu Tang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEM; EDS; SEM; oxidation; microstructure; water vapour; stainless steel; vaporisation; FIB;

    Abstract : This thesis covers the analytical electron microscopy work carried out on samples exposed to high-temperature oxidation in O2 atmospheres with the intention of investigating the effect of oxygen and water vapour. SEM/EDS, TEM/EDS and diffraction techniques, complemented by FIB precision milling, were employed to characterise the formed oxide scales as well as the material directly under the scale in order to understand the mechanisms that influence the corrosion process. 3. 3. The High Temperature Corrosion of Alloy Sanicro 28

    Author : Carolina Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alkali induced corrosion; chromate formation; Sanicro 28; oxidation of stainless steel; KCl induced corrosion;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the influence of potassium chloride in solid and gaseous form on the oxidation of alloy Sanicro 28 (35Fe27Cr31Ni). KCl induced corrosion of chromia forming alloys is important e.g. in fireside corrosion in biomass and waste fired power plants. READ MORE

  4. 4. High Temperature Corrosion of Some Stainless Steels

    Author : Carolina Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oxidation of stainless steel; alkali induced corrosion; KCl induced corrosion; Sanicro 28; chromate formation;

    Abstract : The high temperature corrosion of the alloy Sanicro 28 (35Fe27Cr31Ni) is addressed in this thesis. The influence of water vapour and two potassium-containing salts was investigated. In addition, three other alloys were studied. Polished steel coupons were isothermally exposed in tube furnaces at 600–800°C in 5% O2 and in 5% O2 + 40% H2O. READ MORE

  5. 5. Microscopy of high temperature oxidation of iron and some stainless steels

    Author : Torbjörn Jonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; water vapour; sulphur dioxide; FIB; X20; stainless steel; 353MA; EDX; KCl; FIB SEM; SEM; microstructure; TEM; iron; High-temperature oxidation; in-situ ESEM;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the high temperature oxidation of iron and some stainless steels. The oxide scales, as well as the subjacent metal, were investigated using a range of electron and ion microscopy techniques, including SEM, TEM, EDX and FIB. The aim was to link the microstructural observations to the oxidation mechanisms of the materials. READ MORE
