  1. 1. Neural crest in development and repair

    Author : Jorge Benjamín Aquino; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on several aspects of neural crest biology, largely related to two main issues: 1) understanding its mechanisms of migration and 2) analyzing the potential of neural crest stem cells or their derivatives for nervous system repair. If repair is the aim, knowledge of both timing and events leading to axonal degeneration is required in order to block it and/or increase regeneration outcome. READ MORE

  2. 2. The beneficial Effects of Neural Crest Stem Cells on Pancreatic      β–cells

    Author : Anongnad Ngamjariyawat; Elena Kozlova; Leif Jansson; Jens Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neural Crest Stem Cells; Pancreatic Islets; β-cell proliferation; β-cell survival; Cadherin; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Patients with type-1 diabetes lose their β-cells after autoimmune attack. Islet transplantation is a co-option for curing this disease, but survival of transplanted islets is poor. Thus, methods to enhance β-cell viability and function as well as methods to expand β-cell mass are required. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cell-matrix interactions in neural crest development

  4. 4. Fate selection in the neural crest lineage and its regulation

    Author : Natalia Akkuratova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The neural crest is a transient embryonic progenitor cell population that generates a diverse array of cell and tissue types, including cartilage, bone, teeth, soft connective and adipose tissues, peripheral sensory and autonomic neurons, myelinating and non-myelinating Schwann cells, melanocytes, cardiac outflow tract, adrenal medulla and other derivatives. Neural crest cells start as neuroepithelial cells forming at the border of neural and non-neural ectoderm in a vertebrate embryo. READ MORE

  5. 5. Harnessing the power of model systems to investigate regulation of Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase function

    Author : Patricia Mendoza-Garcia; Ruth Palmer; Jan Larsson; Åsa Rasmuson Lestander; Stefan Luschnig; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RTK; ALK; Drosophila; Danio rerio; ALKALs; signal transduction; transcription factor; visceral mesoderm; iridophores; neural crest; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), initially identified as a translocation partner in anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), has been described in a number of tumors such as neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a neural crest derived malignancy of the sympathetic nervous system. READ MORE
