  1. 21. Global trade, food production and ecosystem support : Making the interactions visible

    Author : Lisa Deutsch; Carl Folke; Karin Limburg; Max Troell; David Waltner-Toews; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; global trade; food production; ecosystem support; resilience; agriculture; ecosystem performance; food consumption; ecological footprint; indicators; aquaculture; agricultural intensification; fishmeal; vulnerability; Sweden; animal feed; critical natural capital; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Modern food production is a complex, globalized system in which what we eat and how it is produced are increasingly disconnected. This thesis examines some of the ways in which global trade has changed the mix of inputs to food and feed, and how this affects food security and our perceptions of sustainability. READ MORE

  2. 22. Source, mobility and fate of critical Be, Bi, F and W from historical sulfidic-oxidic skarn tailings : Re-mining as remediation method?

    Author : Lina Hällström; Lena Alakangas; Olof Martinsson; Heather Jamieson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Abstract : There is a potential risk that geochemical cycles of several critical metals will be affected in the pristine environment, when mining of these metals increases to meet the demand in green technology. The identification of critical metals is based on the economic importance and vulnerability to supply restrictions. READ MORE

  3. 23. Optical manipulation and heating of gold nanoparticles near interfaces

    Author : Daniel Andrén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LSPR spectroscopy; particle-surface separation distance; thermal reshaping; TIRM; nanomotor; plasmonics; photothermal effects; Brownian dynamics; gold nanorod; optical tweezers;

    Abstract : By focusing laser light to small volumes, its momentum can be used to trap and manipulate objects in the size range from cells down to single atoms. Devices using this effect are called optical tweezers, and have found use in measuring and applying minuscule forces and torques, contributed to deepening our knowledge of molecular motors, unraveling the mechanics of cells and DNA, and better understand statistical mechanics and hydrodynamic interactions at the nanoscale. 4. 24. Encountering Depression In-Depth : An existential-phenomenological approach to selfhood, depression, and psychiatric practice

    Author : Patrick Seniuk; Fredrik Svenaeus; Rolf Ahlzén; Jonna Hjertström Lappalainen; Kevin Aho; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Phenomenology; existential philosophy; psychiatric practice; Merleau-Ponty; selfhood; depression; Fenomenologi; existentiell filosofi; psykiatrisk praktik; Merleau- Ponty; självet; depression; Kritisk kulturteori; Critical and Cultural Theory;

    Abstract : This dissertation in Theory of Practical Knowledge contends that depression is a disorder of the self. Using the existential-phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, I argue that if we want to disclose the basic structure of depressed experience, then we must likewise disclose how selfexperience is inseparable from depressed experience. 5. 25. Investigation of the most essential factors influencing ski glide

    Author : Leonid Kuzmin; Mikael Jonsson; Mats Tinnsten; Lars-Erik Persson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wax; Computer Aided Design;

    Abstract : There are many different parameters of a ski running surface (material, roughness, hydrophobicity, etc.). All the parameters have an influence on ski glide, some more and some less. Furthermore, some parameters with only minor relevance are commonly declared as critical, while truly critical parameters, as far as we know, never been investigated. READ MORE
