  1. 1. Critical loads - assessment of uncertainty

    Author : Andreas Barkman; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; landscape planning; regionalisation; forestry; BC Al; sensitivity analysis; risk assessment; Monte Carlo simulation; PROFILE; critical level; exceedance; Acidification; forest soil; policy; EMEP; GIS.; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : The effects of data uncertainty in applications of the critical loads concept were investigated on different spatial resolutions in Sweden and northern Czech Republic. Critical loads of acidity (CL) were calculated for Sweden using the biogeochemical model PROFILE. READ MORE

  2. 2. Heparin-binding protein and organ failure in critical illness

    Author : Jonas Tydén; Joakim Johansson; Magnus Hultin; Jakob Walldén; Sören Berg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heparin-binding protein; Critical care; Shock; Acute respiratory distress syndrome; Acute kidney injury; Ventilator induced lung injury; Renal clearance; Anaesthesiology; anestesiologi;

    Abstract : Background: For patients severely ill enough to require care in an intensive care unit (ICU), both the disease itself (e.g. bacteria in the blood in sepsis or fractures after trauma) and effects of the immune system can cause circulatory, pulmonary, or renal dysfunction. Leukocytes play a dominant role in the immune system. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mathematical Optimization in Flexible Job Shop Scheduling: Modelling, Analysis, and Case Studies

    Author : Karin Thörnblad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Flexible job shop scheduling; Mixed integer linear programming MILP ; Time-indexed formulation; Makespan; Tardiness; Fixture availability; Preventive maintenance; Night shift; Unmanned time window; Dynamic scheduling; Priority rules; Dispatching rules; Critical ratio; Night shift;

    Abstract : The major theme of this thesis is the mathematical optimization modelling of the flexible job shop scheduling problem. This problem is present in the so-called multitask cell—a production cell at GKN Aerospace's facility located in Trollhättan, Sweden—which has served as a case study during the work with this thesis. 4. 4. Tracing anthropogenic Technology Critical Elements using Environmental Forensics : Case studies at Kallholmsfjärden and the Bothnian Bay, northern Sweden

    Author : Stacy Sutliff-Johansson; Anders Widerlund; Kristi Korkka-Niemi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Forensics; Technology Critical Elements; Sediment Contamination; Groundwater Contamination; Contaminant Tracing; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Abstract : The rapidly changing landscape of today's technology industry has increased the number of electronic products being discarded. Society is always on the hunt for the latest product and newest technological advancement, thereby creating a constant influx of older model products into fast-growing waste streams. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigation of Suffusion in Glacial Till Dam Cores : Testing methods and critical hydraulic gradients

    Author : Ingrid Silva; Jan Laue; Peter Viklander; Thomas Pabst; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; internal erosion; suffusion; glacial till; dam cores; dams; experimental investigation; hydraulic gradient; testing methods; cohesionless soils; granular soils; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Suffusion is an internal erosion mechanism that occurs in embankment dams when fine grained particles in the dam core are washed out by seepage. Initiation of internal erosion depends mainly on three major factors: grain size distribution of the soil, stress conditions and hydraulic gradient; whilst its continuation depends on the properties of the filter.
