1. Study of MgB2 and YBa2Cu3O7-x Microbolometers for THz Sensing Applications
Abstract : In this thesis, two novel THz detectors based on magnesium diboride (MgB2)and yttrium barium copper oxide (YBa2Cu3O7-x) are presented. In particular,MgB2 superconductor is used for the investigation of hot-electron bolometer(HEB) mixers, while YBa2Cu3O7-x is explored in microbolometers for room-temperaturecoherent and incoherent detection. 2. Computational studies of core level XPS satellites in transition metal systems : Department of Quantum Chemistry, Uppsala University
Abstract : Upon core ionization of a free molecule or a molecule adsorbed on a metal surface, higher binding energy satellites are observed, so called "shake-up" satellites, which can be viewed as valence excitations simultaneously to the creation of the core hole. In this thesis, theoretical studies of such core level XPS satellites in transition metal systems are presented, as well as cluster calculations of XES spectra, using the quantum mechanical INDO method. 3. Studies of The Electronic Structure of CuPc and PTCDA - Two Molecular Organic Semiconductors
Abstract : Since the discovery of organic materials with conducting and semiconducting proper¬ties a few decades ago, the research in this field has intensified and has become in¬creasingly important. Expected advantages of both economical and technological nature have been powerful driving forces in this development, and today organic based devices are becoming a reality for commercial applications. 4. Photoresponse of Patterned YBa2Cu3O7-x Thin Films
Abstract : The first object of this work was to develop YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) thin films. Initially, Y, BaF2 and Cu were coevaporated with the substrate temperature (TS) 400 °C and the oxygen pressure (pO2) 5 x 10-5 mbar on SrTiO3 substrates with a subsequent high temperature annealing at 890 °C for 15 min in flowing wet oxygen. 5. Plasma Characterization & Thin Film Growth and Analysis in Highly Ionized Magnetron Sputtering
Abstract : The present thesis addresses two research areas related to film growth in a highly ionized magnetron sputtering system: plasma characterization, and thin film growth and analysis. The deposition technique used is called high power pulsed magnetron sputtering (HPPMS). READ MORE
