  1. 16. Nitric Oxide Synthase in Pancreatic Islets During Trauma and Parenteral Feeding

    Author : Saleem Qader; Islet cell physiology; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Gastroenterologi; Gastro-enterology; Pancreatitis; Ghrelin; TPN; cNOS; iNOS; PACAP; VIP; cAMP; Pancreatic islets; Insulin secretion;

    Abstract : The influence of trauma (acute pancreatitis) or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) on pancreatic islet hormone secretion in relation to islet expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) was investigated. Acute pancreatitis resulted in an impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) which was found to be parallelled by a marked expression of iNOS and an exaggerated NO production in the pancreatic islets. 2. 17. Platelets : intracellular signalling and cellular interaction

    Author : Magnus Grenegård; Hans Gyllenhammar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Activation of platelets is essential to prevent excessive blood loss at the site of vascular injury. These highly reactive cell fragments are also involved in several pathological conditions, in particular arterial thrombosis, which, in the coronary vessels, can lead to reduced blood flow, vessel occlusion and myocardial infarction. 3. 18. Regulation of E-cadherin mediated adhesion in thyroid epithelial cells

    Author : Fredrik Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : thyroid; adherens junction; E-cadherin; thyrotropin; cAMP; PKA; Epac; IQGAP;

    Abstract : Cell adhesion is one of multicellular organisms most fundamental features. Cells connect to each other by transmembrane proteins arranged in junction complexes. READ MORE

  4. 19. Adrenergic signaling in insulin-sensitive tissues

    Author : Daniel L. Yamamoto; Tore Bengtsson; Barbara Cannon; Michael Cawthorne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Adrenergic; Glucose; Signaling; Skeletal muscle; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Abstract : Glucose metabolism in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is tightly regulated by external stimuli. Metabolic changes in these tissues have direct effects on whole body metabolism. Such metabolic changes can be induced or influenced by adrenergic stimulation. READ MORE

  5. 20. Advances in Stereoselective Palladium(ΙΙ)-Catalyzed Oxidative Transformations of Allenes

    Author : Daniels Posevins; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Troels Skrydstrup; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Synthesis; Palladium Catalysis; Allenes; Biomimetic; Carbocyclization; Borylation; Carbonylation; Oxidation; Heterogeneous; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Palladium(ΙΙ)-catalyzed carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond formation via selective C-H bond oxidation constitutes a step-economical and versatile approach towards complex target molecules. This thesis has been focused on the development of new selective palladium(ΙΙ)-catalyzed transformations of allenes under oxidative conditions catalyzed by either homogenous or heterogeneous palladium(ΙΙ) catalysts.
