  1. 1. The Role of Cyclooxygenase-2 in Models of Epilepsy and Traumatic Brain Injury : Effects of Selective Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors

    Author : Tina Kunz; Tadeusz Wieloch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Controlled cortical contusion injury; fluid percussion injury; limbic seizures; nuclear factor-kappa B; prostaglandin metabolism; TUNEL staining; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) catalyses prostaglandin synthesis from arachidonic acid during inflammation. COX-2 is expressed in the normal brain and is induced in neurological disorders. There is evidence that COX-2 is involved in secondary events leading to cell death in the brain. READ MORE

  2. 2. Influence of leukotriene D4 and cyclooxygenase-2 on cell survival

    Author : Katarina Wikström; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pathological anatomy; Patologi allmän ; General pathology; colorectal cancer; inflammation; apoptosis; LTD4; COX-2; patologisk anatomi;

    Abstract : The pro-inflammatory effect of leukotrienes is an important element in the pathogenesis of multiple disorders, including asthma and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). A serious concern for IBD patients is the increased risk of developing colorectal cancer and since there seems to be a general connection between inflammation and cancer we hypothesised that LTD4 induced signalling events could be involved in increasing the tumourgenic potential of cells. 3. 3. Immunotherapy and COX-2 inhibition against malignant brain tumors

    Author : Sofia Eberstål; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Malignant brain tumors; immunotherapy; IFN-γ; GM-CSF; COX-2 inhibition;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor in the central nervous system and the prognosis is very poor despite conventional therapies including surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy. Peripheral vaccination with irradiated tumor cells represent a novel therapy that targets both dividing and non-dividing tumor cells and minimizes the risk of therapy resistance by presenting multiple tumor antigens. 4. 4. Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors and knee prosthesis surgery

    Author : Andreas Meunier; Lars Good; Per Aspenberg; Tore Dalén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents; administration dosage; Arthroplasty; knee replacement; Surgical blood loss; Surgery; Cyclooxygenase inhibitors; Cyclooxygenase inhibitors; Fracture healing; Isoxazoles; Postoperative pain; Pyrazoles; Sulfonamides; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Adverse effects of cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors on bone healing have previously been demonstrated in diaphyseal fracture models in animals. In spite of that, they are widely used as postoperative analgesics in orthopaedic surgery. After joint replacement, a bone repair process starts at the interface between bone and cement. READ MORE

  5. 5. Involvement of eicosanoid signalling in epithelial cell migration

    Author : Oliver Broom; Malmö Cellpatologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histokemi; cytokemi; Medicin människa och djur ; Histology; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; Integrin; Eicosanoid; COX-2; Cell migration; cytochemistry; histochemistry; Histologi; tissue culture; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : The development of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and colon cancer (CC) has been shown to involve the up-regulation of inflammatory mediators and the machinery producing them such as the eicosanoids. Changes in the expression of extracellular matrix proteins and their related integrin receptors have also been shown to be important in the advancement IBD and CC. READ MORE
