  1. 1. PBDEs in the Environment : Time trends, bioaccumulation and the identification of their successor, decabromodiphenyl ethane

    Author : Amelie Kierkegaard; Lillemor Asplund; Cynthia de Wit; Michael McLachlan; Jacob de Boer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : PBDE; BDE209; dietary absorption; metabolism; debromination; bioaccumulation; decabromodiphenyl ethane; decabromodiphenyl ether; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are important chemical flame retardants, but also environmental pollutants. Their bromine substitution lends them a different bioaccumulation behaviour than the better studied organochlorines.The contamination of a Swedish lake with lower brominated BDEs was assessed by a retrospective study of pike. 2. 2. Leaching and Transformation of Flame Retardants and Plasticizers under Simulated Landfill Conditions

    Author : Maritha Hörsing; Bo H. Svensson; Susanne Jonsson; Anna Karlsson; Cynthia de Wit; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DEHP; BBP; tetrabromobisphenol A; TBBPA; TBBPA-DAE; TBBPA-DBPE; TBBPA-DHEE; Proban; Pyrovatex; Melamine; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Many products used in our everyday life contain chemicals added to give them specific properties. Flame retardants (FRs) are added to prevent or retard fires in textiles, plastics etc., while plasticizers are supplied to make plastics more flexible. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cellular transport and secretion of the cyanobacterial neurotoxin BMAA into milk and egg : Implications for developmental neurotoxicity

    Author : Marie Andersson; Ingvar Brandt; Cynthia de Wit; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BMAA; beta-N-methylamino-L-alanine; milk; secretion; amino acid transporter; autoradiography; metabolism; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Abstract : The cyanobacterial amino acid β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxin implicated in the etiology of neurodegenerative diseases. Cyanobacteria are cosmopolitan organisms present in various environments. READ MORE

  4. 4. Brominated flame retardants and perfluoroalkyl acids in Swedish indoor microenvironments : Implications for human exposure

    Author : Justina Björklund; Cynthia de Wit; Thomas Webster; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDEs; HBCD; PFOS; PFOA; indoor air; indoor dust; breast milk; human exposure; emission; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as brominated flame retardants (BFRs, specifically polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD)) and perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs, specifically perfluoroalkane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)). They are used in consumer products found in cars, offices, homes and day care centers. READ MORE

  5. 5. What contributes to human body burdens of phthalate esters? : An experimental approach

    Author : Georgios Giovanoulis; Cynthia A. de Wit; Jörgen Magnér; Brice Appenzeller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phthalates; Alternative plasticizers; DINCH; In vivo screening; Urine; Nails; Air; Dust; Hand wipes; Duplicate diet; Predictors of exposure; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Phthalate esters (PEs) and alternative plasticizers used as additives in numerous consumer products are continuously released into the environment leading to subsequent human exposure. The ubiquitous presence and potential adverse health effects (e.g. READ MORE
