1. Aspects of Crack Growth in Single-Crystal Nickel-Base Superalloys
Abstract : This Licentiate of Engineering thesis is a product of the results generated in the research project KME-702, which comprises modelling, microstructure investigations and material testing of cast nickel-base superalloys. The main objective of this work is to model the fatigue crack propagation behaviour in single-crystal nickel-base superalloys. 2. Thermal response tests : influence of convective flow in groundwater filled borehole heat exchanger
Abstract : The main objective of this doctorial thesis was to investigate how thermally induced movements in the groundwater (natural convective flow) may influence the heat transport in borehole and surrounding bedrock in a groundwater filled borehole heat exchanger system. The purpose was also to determine if thermal response tests could be used to detect the convective influence and the effect on evaluated heat transfer parameters, effective bedrock thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance. 3. Ships, clouds, and waves : understanding ecosystems in traditional industries
Abstract : This dissertation builds on a jointly phenomenological and theoretical approach to investigate how traditional industries face challenges related to ecosystem innovation. Phenomenologically, it investigates how innovation within the shipbuilding industry affects the activities performed by firms that have traditionally filled the role of suppliers to shipyards. 4. Uptake and toxicity of brominated flame retardants and pesticides : Studies on littoral organisms and model communities
Abstract : In this thesis, brackish and freshwater littoral model communities (microcosms) of varying size and complexity were used to study the effects of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and pesticides. The brackish water microcosms consisted of natural water, sediment and associated organisms, while the larger freshwater microcosms also contained submersed macrophytes (Elodea canadensis). READ MORE

5. Structural and functional studies of proteins of medical relevance : Protein-ligand complexes in cancer and novel structural folds in bacteria
Abstract : X-ray crystallography is a tool for determining the structures of proteins and protein-ligand complexes. In this thesis the method has been employed to study several proteins of medical relevance.Cancer is a terrible disease, severely impacting those affected, as well as their family and friends.
