    Abstract : Corrosion of metallic materials is a natural process, and our study shows that even in an alkaline environment severe corrosion may occur on a carbon steel surface. While corrosion cannot be stopped it can be retarded. READ MORE

    Abstract : During the prolonged course of chronic viral infection there is a continuous reciprocal interaction between the host immune defence system and the viral immunogens, and viral genetic mutations capable of circumventing host immune defence could be selected for. Our observation of increasing prevalence of heterogeneity in the DNA sequence coding for the ‘a1 determinant of HBsAg in patients with presumed increasing length of chronic HBV infection is in agreement with the assumption of accumulation of presumed escape mutants.     Abstract : We consider the natural unitary action of the group SU(d, 1) on the Hilbert space L2(B,d/j,\), where B is the unit ball of C , dfi\ is the measure K(z, z)~~*+ï dm(z), and K(z, z) the reproducing kernel of the Bergman space on B. For A > —1 and not an integer, a Plancherel formula is proved for this action and, in particular, an explicit formula for the correponding Plancherel measure is found. READ MORE

    Abstract : The thesis focuses on the anatomical and cellular distribution of three EF-hand calcium binding proteins, secretagogin, neuronal calcium-binding protein 1 (NECAB1) and NECAB2 in dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) and spinal cord of three species, mouse, rat and human, and their possible roles in pathophysiological pain. In Paper I and Paper IV, we report that the expression of secretagogin is limited to a small subpopulation of peptidergic neurons in mouse and human DRGs expressing calcitonin generelated peptide (CGRP).
