  1. 6. Corrosion of steel bars in fibre reinforced concrete: corrosion mechanisms and structural performance

    Author : Carlos Gil Berrocal; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; residual flexural capacity; chloride-induced corrosion; electrical resistivity; Fibre reinforced concrete; reinforcement bond; durability; cracking;

    Abstract : The viability of employing fibre reinforcement to improve the durability performance of RC structures by delaying and/or reducing rebar corrosion and by mitigating the structural impact of corrosion-induced damage have been investigated. Given the enhanced crack control of FRC, it could be advantageous to use fibres in civil engineering structures to decrease the ingress of corrosion-initiation substances. READ MORE

  2. 7. Carbide and MAX-Phase Engineering by Thin Film Synthesis

    Author : Jens-Petter Palmquist; Ulf Jansson; M. Jochen Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Thin films; microstructure; epitaxy; carbide; WC; MAX-phase; Ti3SiC2; DC magnetron sputtering; PVD; Reciprocal Space Mapping; RSM; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on the development of low-temperature processes for transition metal carbide and MAX-phase thin film growth. Magnetron sputtering and evaporation, far from thermodynamical equilibrium, have been utilised to engineer the properties of the films by physical and chemical control. READ MORE

  3. 8. Hydrogeophysics of Tropical Africa : Recent advances and perspectives

    Author : Elónio Muiuane; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : In the present work an attempt is made to put into perspective the hydrogeophysical investigations for rural water supply carried out over the last two decades in tropical Africa, paying special attention to groundwater targets in the weathered rocks in and above the crystalline basement. The applicability of geophysical techniques in groundwater investigations in tropical Africa, particularly the DC resistivity and electromagnetic techniques is discussed in the light of recent developments in instrumentation, data collection and interpretation procedures. 4. 9. Thin film growth and characterization of Ti-Si-C MAX-phases

    Author : Jens Emmerlich; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the growth of Ti-Si-C MAX-phases on A12O3(0001) and MgO(111) substrates with the emphasis on epitaxial Ti3SiC2 thin films by means of DC magnetron sputtering. Ti3SiC2, Ti4SiC3 as well as the two intergrown structures Ti5Si2C3 and Ti7Si2C5 were grown using sputtering from three individual elemental targets of Ti, Si, and C, respectively. READ MORE

  5. 10. Me-Si-C (Me= Nb, Ti or Zr) : Nanocomposite and Amorphous Thin Films

    Author : Olof Tengstrand; Lars Hultman; Per Eklund; Benny André; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates thin films of the transition metal carbide systems Ti-Si-C, Nb-Si-C, and Zr-Si-C, deposited at a low substrate temperature (350 °C) with dc magnetron sputtering in an Ar discharge. Both the electrical and mechanical properties of these systems are highly affected by their structure. READ MORE
