1. Insights into the effect of myocardial revascularisation on electrical and mechanical cardiac function
Abstract : Background: Acute coronary syndrome is known for its effect on cardiac function and can lead to impaired segmental and even global myocardial function. Evidence exists that myocardial revascularisation whether pharmacological, interventional or surgical results in improvement of systolic and diastolic left ventricular (LV) function, particularly that of the long axis which represents the sub-endocardial function, known as the most sensitive layer to ischaemia. 2. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction : subjective knee function, graft failure and revision surgery
Abstract : An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is a severe knee injury, which leads to increased knee laxity and often functional instability. An ACL reconstruction (ACLR) is generally recommended to patients who desire to return to pivoting sports. Surgery is also recommended in cases of persistent instability during activities of daily living. READ MORE

3. Preservation of parathyroid function in thyroid and parathyroid surgery
Abstract : Preservation of normal parathyroid function and calcium homeostasis after operations on the thyroid and parathyroid glands is a difficult assignment in endocrine surgery, and it is crucial to minimise the risks of permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism. The aim of this thesis was to study the vascular supply of the parathyroid glands and the revascularisation, growth, and function of transplanted parathyroid tissue, in order to add new information about parathyroid preservation. 4. Survival and functional recovery following valve replacement in patients with severe aortic stenosis
Abstract : Background: Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common heart valve disease in Europe and North America. Age-related calcification of the valve is the commonest cause of acquired AS, especially in patients older than 70 years. READ MORE

5. Healing of endosseous implants with different surface characteristics in grafted and non-grafted bone : clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : Aims: This study uses radiological and clinical evaluations of the healing of endosseous titanium implants presented with different surface characteristics in the clinical situation (paper I-III) and experimentally to describe the early bone healing in maxillary sinus membrane elevation with and without the use of grafting material (paper IV).Material and methods: In paper I, 136 patients were treated with 394 dental implants – 199 were oxidized titanium implants (Nobel Biocare TiUnite) and 195 were turned titanium surface implants (Nobel Biocare Mark III).
